UPDATE: Virginia State Democratic Lawmaker Stabbed By Son, Who Then Shoots Himself Dead
State Senator Craig Deeds is in critical condition after being stabbed by his son who then fatally shot himself.
Democratic sources tell News4 that Deeds’ son Austin “Gus” Deeds attacked his father Tuesday morning before turning a gun on himself. Police say Gus Deeds died at the scene.
Virginia State Police were called to Deeds’ home at 7:25 a.m., and the senator was flown to UVA Hospital in Charlottesville.
Deeds ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2009.
The same year his father ran for governor, Gus Deeds, then 20, was arrested in Bath County for alcohol possession, according to the Virginia Pilot.
