Drunk Santa Dressalikes Invade New York City
It’s an event known as “Santacon”. It’s supposed purpose is to raise money for charity – but the pre-Festivus pub crawl has become a nuisance for some New York City neighborhoods who are fed up with sloshed partiers in Santa drag:
Thousands of drunken Santas went dashing through the snow under the influence Saturday, dutifully earning their places on Saint Nick’s “naughty” list.
The red-faced revelers — many from out of town — overwhelmed parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan for SantaCon, the annual event that has created scores of local Scrooges.
In the East Village impromptu “ho ho hos” echoed down E. 11th St. Some Santas carried boom boxes blasting dub step, shouting and dancing. A few handed out gifts to kids navigating the sidewalks packed with scantily clad Mrs. Clauses in high-heeled boots, stumbling gingerbread houses, belligerent elves, leaning Christmas trees and, inexplicably, pandas.
Cindy Priester, 33, of Massapequa, L.I., wore a revealing low-cut Santa outfit with fishnet leggings for her seventh SantaCon.
“Every year I try to wear skimpier and skimpier outfits whether or not it snows,” she said, giggling in Tompkins Square Park.
Outside the Brooklyn Warehouse in Williamsburg, a slew of sloshed Santas stumbled outside, fumbling with their phones in futile bids to contact friends.
