Teacher Tells Student ‘Go Back To Iraq’ For Not Standing During Pledge
The student’s family is accusing the Clark County, Nevada teacher of racial profiling.
KTNV-TV reported that a Muslim student at Cimmaron-Memorial High School did not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance due to an injury.
“His words to me, verbatim were, ‘My teacher told me that this is America, and if you can’t stand for the Pledge of Allegiance in my class, you can go back to Iraq,’” the student’s father told KTNV.
“At first, like, I didn’t want to say anything because I was confused,” the student added. “I didn’t know a teacher would say something like that.”
The student was in a leg brace due to an injury he suffered during wrestling practice…
The Supreme Court has ruled on several occasions that “students cannot be compelled to recite the Pledge, nor can they be punished for not doing so.”
The school said the teacher will be disciplined but the father would like to know how.
“Our Islamic beliefs have nothing to do with our patriotism,” the father stated.
