Law Firm That Investigated Christie Had Just Donated $10,000
The Bergen Record reports that nine days before clearing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie of wrongdoing in Bridgeghazi, Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher had donated $10,000 to the Republican Governors’ Association. The head of that group just happens to be Chris Christie.
The law firm’s California office appears to make regular contributions to the GOP group, which Christie has credited with helping him get elected in 2009. Many companies make annual contributions to the Republican Governors Association and its Democratic counterpart to gain access to events the governors attend.
Gibson Dunn has not yet donated to the Democratic Governors Association this year and did not make contributions to the group in 2013 or 2012.
Christie’s office hired the law firm in January to conduct the internal investigation and represent the office in the ongoing legislative and U.S. Attorney investigations into the lane closures.
The law firm is being paid $650 an hour for its work but has not yet submitted any bills to the state.
