A conservative group, no doubt looking for publicity, announced it will boycott any NFL team that drafts  gay player Michael Sam.

If Sam does get drafted, the team that picks him will get to look forward to dealing with Washington, DC lobbyist Jack Burkman who, as part of his campaign to pass legislation that would ban openly gay players from playing in the NFL, is vowing to unleash a “relentness” boycott against the team that drafts him.

Burkman says that he has a “coalition of Evangelical Christian leaders from across the nation” ready to go as soon as Sam is drafted who will teach the NFL that “when you trample the Christian community and Christian values, there will be a terrible financial price to pay.”

In a release issued Thursday, Burkman said he would “leverage his political clout” to ensure that the franchise that selects the 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive end from Missouri would get “roughed up financially.”

“We shall exercise our First Amendment rights and shall not stop until the drafting NFL franchise cannot sell a single ticket, jersey or autographed football,” said Burkman. “In short, we shall be relentless.”

Just goes to show you, it is not Muslims who seek to impose Sharia law in this country.

  2. MaryEllen Smith May 8th, 2014 at 4:58 pm

I am not a sports fan, but I would go to a game that had this player on its team. There are a lot more of us than closed-minded bigots AKA christians.

I’m not sure how much clout (if any) Jack Burkman has, because I’d never heard of him before i read this article.

    • Alan May 8th, 2014 at 5:38 pm

He’s been a Republican pundit making the cable rounds for years.

The only difference between them and Islamists is that our country is ruled by law. Islamists twist their holy book to justify their ugly behavior. How are they any different?

    • fahvel May 9th, 2014 at 4:40 am

ruled by law?? not really since the laws are fabricated by a separate power that really know nothing of the people.

“When you trample Christian values.” I can’t help thinking of the donut metaphor wherein you get angry at someone else for eating one when you are on a diet. I fail to see how one man’s homosexuality has any impact on this yahoo. I also fail to see how allowing him to provide for his family impacts this yahoo either. Boycott if you like, but it seems terribly mean spirited and not Jesus-like at all.

    • fahvel May 9th, 2014 at 4:39 am

ah pixie yahoos only eat the hole in the doughnut – hence, empty heads.

  6. dljen May 8th, 2014 at 5:48 pm

Christians have such ugly hearts. Michael Sam should be accepted for his talent.

  7. boo7797 May 8th, 2014 at 5:57 pm

Whoever drafts Michael Sam will become my second favorite team and I will buy a Michael Sam jersey and wear it myself and I don’t wear anything but Packer gear, but I will wear his gear. He or his new team should not have to put up with this kind of hate coming at them!

    • Cindy Koehn May 8th, 2014 at 6:25 pm

Me too. And I am not a football fan (although if I were, it’d be Packers).

    • Shades May 8th, 2014 at 7:49 pm

I might just have to buy a jersey myself, and I don’t give a rat’s patooty about football.

This is cracking me up! And how does a lobbyist think he can have a law passed to force the NFL not to hire gay people? Don’t these religious fanatics have lives, or are they secretly gay and living vicariously through this nonsense? I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the bible belt downloads more gay porn than other areas of the country.

    • fahvel May 9th, 2014 at 4:38 am

no – they have no lives – when life is based on the faith in a collection of scrolls interpreted by all with a preset idea – there is no life, just the gentle braying of moutons

  9. Shades May 8th, 2014 at 7:49 pm

    Yeah, good luck with that.

  10. WYNEMA GONZAGOWSKI May 8th, 2014 at 8:27 pm

I am NOT a sports person at all and I will support whatever team he is on…

  11. Roctuna May 8th, 2014 at 8:45 pm

Their relentlessness will go over about as well as Bill O’Reilly’s boycot of France.

    • fahvel May 9th, 2014 at 4:36 am

we French are very happy to accomodate BO’s boycott – he’d be stopped by the Douanes just for being bill.

  12. sfwm.son May 8th, 2014 at 11:00 pm

    How very christ-like of them…

  14. fahvel May 9th, 2014 at 4:35 am

  15. Debra Diroll May 9th, 2014 at 7:26 am

How christian of them. They obviously do not read their bibles.

  16. 24921257 May 9th, 2014 at 5:55 pm

There sick, but the awful thing about is their not going to heaven neither.

    • Klaudia May 9th, 2014 at 7:05 pm

Considering that heaven isn’t real, that’s totally ok.

      • disqus_bvzyOg5eso May 9th, 2014 at 10:02 pm

How do you know??? Have you died and come back as a witness to this?

        • The Lochnar May 9th, 2014 at 10:09 pm

Who has come back to tell us? You do not know either and since there is no evidence of heaven than best guess is that it doesn’t exist.

        • Klaudia May 12th, 2014 at 1:51 pm

The people who made up god and heaven told me.

  17. George May 10th, 2014 at 12:51 am

Rape, theft, drug and alcohol use, steroid use, divorced, blasphemy, adultery and unmarried with children – these must be OK, right? Aren’t some of these frowned upon by the Bile as well, so where is the outrage by Jack Burkman

    • Edward Himsel May 10th, 2014 at 6:43 am

“The Bile”? Bit of a Freudian slip there? :p

  18. frank D May 11th, 2014 at 11:13 pm

Burkman is a hired lobbyist, he has to show his client how he will use their hired church’s congregations’ donations to line his own pocket…..get these evengelical church’s at THEIR financial pockets!. STOP DONATIONS
