It’s this Saturday (h/t Steve Marmel). That’s when a bunch of “patriots” who love the Constitution are going to show who’s boss.

This Saturday, angry residents of San Juan County, Utah, plan to illegally ride their ATVs through Utah’s Recapture Canyon—an 11 mile-long stretch of federal land that is home to Native American archeological sites—because they don’t think that the federal Bureau of Land Management should have designated that land off-limits to motor vehicles. The protest was meant to be a local affair. But on Thursday, Bundy, the rancher who wouldn’t pay the feds grazing fees and sparked a gun-drenched showdown in Nevada, called on his supporters to join the anti-government off-roading event, E&E Publishing’s Phil Taylor reported. Bundy, whose crusade against the federal government became tainted by his racist comments, is looking to spread the cause from cattle to cross-country cruising.

“We don’t expect any violence,” San Juan County Sheriff Rick Eldredge told the Denver Post last week. Others aren’t so sure, especially since the out-of-staters in attendance could help rile things up—which is what happened during the Bundy stand-off. “This may blow up to be significantly more than they thought,” Bill Boyle, a resident of San Juan and publisher of the San Juan Record newspaper told the Post. “I think there are those who would like everyone with an AK-47 to be here.”

Nothing shouts ‘I’m a Greedy Oil Pig’ like Tea Party anarchists illegally riding their ATVs through Utah’s Recapture Canyon— trashing the sacred home of Native American archeological sites! Their illegal tracks made over a few hours will remain for a century or more causing severe erosion from environmental impact with devastating habitat losses.

Agree – but where’s the outrage about the destruction done at the Burning Man fiasco – just ’cause ther’s maybe no guns? They are doing evil to a rare piece of earth too.

      • Budda May 14th, 2014 at 7:54 am

The Burning Man ‘fiasco’ gets a permit and complies with all the requirements asked of them, including a total clean up afterwards.

they clean up nicely but they cannot, after years of trampling, replace the perfection of one of the finest flat surfaces in the world – the depression will be eternal.

I’d think some Native Americans might have something to say about this.

    • fahvel May 14th, 2014 at 3:54 am

      I certainly hope so!

Not that these idiots would care. Did you read about the story about the OK guv’s daughter mocking Native Americans at one of her concerts?

So the Sheriff says he doesn’t expect any violence. Does that mean he, like in Nevada, plans to stand around and watch as they commit a crime, or does he plan to actually enforce the law this time around? Really sick of the local law enforcement who let these people get away with this stuff in order to “keep the peace”. Then afterwards people and law enforcement ask “Now why did they get away with this stuff?”. Grow a pair and enforce the law, don’t back down because the people you are facing wave flags and call themselves “patriots”. Drug dealers, thieves, and other criminals do not get the same pass.

perfectly said – when the so called law sits back the AK’s win

I have to think that desecration of public lands and antiquities that belong to us all is a crime.

What will these thugs do next? Pee in the hallways of the Smithsonian?

Seriously folks, if these people cause damage to archaeological sites, I think the next course of action will be to organize through groups like the Sierra Club and file class action lawsuits against these self-indulgent spoiled brat criminals. they want to play with their little toys and don’t give a damn about destroying a historical heritage that belongs to everyone.

Let’s just sue their a$$es into oblivion.

Their actions are not garnering anything other than the disgust of the American voters for their illegal behavior and disregard for the environment and disregard of the law.
