Never mind that the Republican-led House Intelligence Committee cleared the White House on Benghazi. Of course, not many people know that because it’s barely been covered in the media. But, even if it had been, it wouldn’t stop right-wing monomania.

A new trend among conservatives on Facebook is to change one’s middle name to “Benghazi,” the site of a 2012 terrorist attack that the right-wing media insists mainstream news organizations, President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and your mother just aren’t paying enough attention to.

The idea behind the Facebook campaign seems to be to call attention to the terrorist attack by squishing it between the wedding photo albums and Upworthy links that populate Facebook. Every time one of the participants writes a status, makes a comment or simply “likes” something, you’re quietly reminded of Benghazi.

Where were these people when 2300 died in Afghanistan and 4400 died in Iraq? Just curious.

Cheering on W for his brilliant “enhanced interrogation” strategy.

Wait until they hear about Obama’s third term.

        • mea_mark August 7th, 2014 at 8:52 pm

I wonder if republicans will decide to vote in the democratic primary. Vote for Hillary just to keep Obama out.

          • Anomaly 100 August 7th, 2014 at 8:53 pm

They should do that just to outwit us.

Maybe, but McDaniel will still threaten a lawsuit about losing to Cochran!

If you need reminding, just take a look at the comments on the Kansas City Star newspaper.

From the book “Stranger in a Strange Land” by Robert Heinlein. It means to fully understand something

During the 2008 campaign, many Obama supporters changed their middle names to Hussein on FB, twitter and HP, so once again, cons are copying liberals.

    • tiredoftea August 7th, 2014 at 9:22 pm

But, not for the right reasons, of course!

    • TheNeedle August 8th, 2014 at 8:18 am

And quite a few changed their middle names to “Malala” in honor of Malala Yousafzai.

I wonder how many of these twits can locate Benghazi on a map?

    • tiredoftea August 7th, 2014 at 9:35 pm

There’s an actual Benghazi? Who knew!

      • Robert Merrill Taylor August 7th, 2014 at 11:47 pm

Benghazi changed hands several times between German and British Commonwealth forces during the North African phase of WWII, I know where it is from my interest in history.

  6. No way out August 7th, 2014 at 9:40 pm

Benghazi stopped being a story a week after the event. Every morsel of subsequent information has been adjusted and embellished by the reeling right wing lunacy

  7. No way out August 7th, 2014 at 9:45 pm

Let’s change our middle name to Chris Stevens. Not one in 10 republicans actually know who he was

That image, and how common it is, really disturbs me.

The punchline is essentially “Haha this woman was violently beaten into unconsciousness and will now be raped! Hilarious!” No, it’s not satire, satire is SUBVERSIVE of terrible things, not mere illustrations of them.

And there is literally ZERO anthropological evidence suggesting this is even what happened. Our primate relatives don’t behave that way. Hunter-gatherer societies that exist today don’t behave that way. Where the hell did this come from? Someone at some point just made this up out of whole cloth, pulled it right out of their ass, and everyone just went along with it for some reason.

“Yeah, that seems reasonable! Neanderthals totally practiced violent rape as a fundamental pillar of their society! This seems completely natural and historically accurate.”

The implications are disturbing to say the least, that everyone seems to think contemporary society is the only thing stopping themselves from degrading to that behavior, as it’s apparently the natural behavior of men or whatever.

OMG!!! What’s it going to take for the pinheads on the right to let this go? The alleged ringleader of the attack on Benghazi Ahmed Abu Khattala has said that the anti-Islam video did provoke the attack. Even fox admitted that there was no “stand down order,” and fox’s Chris Wallace called out darrel issa as a liar. Seven committee’s and the State Dept. Independent Accountability Review Board have all agreed that issa is full of crap!!!!
