Glenn Thrush mentioned that the death of Robin Williams wasn’t at the top of his list to be concerned about, and that didn’t sit well with many Tweeters.

And then:

I have to admit that I’m more with his sentiment than not. I kept it to myself, though.

      Until now

        Yup

It affected me more that it should have maybe but I do think it was a more important story than say, some Tea Partier in some district I never heard of saying something stupid or some poll showing that people in Oregon don’t know how to pronounce their own state’s name.

It worked. He got a lot of people to pay attention to him and a few like minded people will now praise him as some kind of straight shooter. One of these people pops up every time someone famous dies.

It may be a ploy to get page views, but it needed to be said.

That was a insensitive thing to say. As one who suffers from depression, at times severely, I empathize with what happened to Robin. Yes, there is nasty crap going on in the world (Gaza, the Yazidis being threatened, Ebola, etc), but it doesn’t mean we should lessen the importance for even just one person. Robin suffered from depression, that in itself is something very important for 10s of millions of people. He could have just expressed his sympathies and moved on.

. . . or said nothing. That would have worked.

a family member suffers from depression/bi-polar.
It’s nothing to dismiss with such ease (as this TWITter has done) so I completely agree with you.

take heart that some of us are human and we care

He meant a lot to millions, in a real, non-BS way. Made-up scandals, Ted Nugent, and Sarah Palin stories don’t hold a candle to Williams.

Long after they, and Thrush, have passed into dust, he will be remembered and loved. So there’s that.

Why do you even send something like this to us. He doesnt deserve the five seconds it took me to read it.

I don’t see the need for the tweet as it is. Now if he went on and asked why are all the ‘hard’ news stations doing nothing but the death & film clips and repeating interviews w/people who knew him from 20 minutes ago, and did so in a thoughtful way, he may not have gotten the backlash. As it is, it’s a bit cras.
    My view.

Shame on him. As a parting gift WIlliams provided is an opportunity to open a dialogue, a conversation about mental health. A perfect teaching moment – and Thrush blew it.

A little something the reporter missed from our pals at Liberal America:

In my 50 years on this Earth, I have only cried once when I heard of a passing of a Star, that was James Cagney. When I was told about Robin my heart broke and my tears fell. The one thing I would never understand is, why someone who gave the world so much joy, couldn’t save a little for himself. Today the World morns. I have never heard of glen thush, buy there is always an asshole in the group.

Have you been to his twitter lately? Now he’s deferred attention to The President stating “Took POTUS 2 hours to respond to Robin Williams death. Not a peep about Mike Brown shooting or riots in US city. Why?” So yeah I guess we are all supposed to just forget you’re a callous assbite because you know, Obama. How about this you Louis C.K. wannabe? Get a sense of perspective, understand that not everyone has the same limited amount of sensitivity that you do, Understand that there’s no Nobel Peace Prize for being a crap ass social pundit and lose your douche nozzle hat, what is this an Arcade Fire show?!? OH and finally and learn to keep your silly mouth shut when you have nothing intelligent to say.

oooooooo – I like the way you said that!!

      • Khary A August 12th, 2014 at 12:32 pm

Thanks Bandit, an acerbic tongue is only one of my super powers. It gets me into trouble more than not but still worth it.

    • HoldenLitgo August 12th, 2014 at 6:33 pm

And when Obama said Trayvon “could have been my son” I’m sure he was one of the “compassionate conservatives” who criticized him for that, too.

  10. Suzanne McFly August 12th, 2014 at 11:25 am

Unlike Robin, when this piece of garbage passes, very few will take notice.

  11. BanditBasheert August 12th, 2014 at 11:56 am

“Thrush” is a form of candida that grows in the mouth.
    He is aptly named.

dumb ass comes across as real sensitive guy…..must have lots of girls flocking to be enveloped in his sensitive warmth….how freaking stupid is this person anyway?

On Dec. 7, 1980, I was studying in a dorm at The University of Texas, and news of John Lennon’s murder spread like wildfire. The whole campus came to a standstill. The local rock station immediately went commercial free, and stating playing nothing but Lennon music, and interviews with John. Then, as now, it didn’t take rightwing haters long before they were saying the most vile things about the dead. It’s par for the course for people who have been whipped into a hatefilled, racist frenzy by 24/7 liars at Hatriot radio and Fox News. It helps to think of these people, not as our fellow citizens, but as a cancer that is being slowly excised as it is brought to light.
