And it happened at a firing range.

Spokeswoman Trish Carter said the girl, who was vacationing from New Jersey with her parents, was standing next to the instructor at the time.

Mohave County Sheriff Jim McCabe said the girl safely and successfully fired the 9 mm weapon several times when it was set in the “single-shot” mode.

He said the weapon was put into the “fully-automatic” mode before the girl fired again with the instructor standing off to her left. The weapon recoiled and drifted left as the girl squeezed off an undetermined number of rounds as she maintained possession but lost control of the Uzi as it raised up above her head.

“The guy just dropped,” McCabe said of shooting instructor Charles Vacca, 39, of Lake Havasu City, who suffered at least one gunshot to the head.[su_sky_ad]

A 9 year old with a fully automatic Uzi? Darwin at work.

    • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 11:17 pm

But, but, gun instructor! NRA trained gun instructor!

  2. tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 11:18 pm

The only thing that stops a little girl with a fully automatic rifle is…uh..oh…uhhh…Shit!

  3. labman57 August 26th, 2014 at 11:43 pm

    Bullets, Bibles, and … Burgers?
Some folks need to let go of their “guns are great” obsessiveness and embrace an ounce of common sense.

Look what those irresponsible people have done to that little girl. Sadly the instructor paid with his life for his part in this travesty and his family will suffer too. That young girl has been scarred for life for what? This was 100% avoidable just like every single accidental gun killing.

Is the dead guy the one who handed a loaded fully auto gun to a nine year old girl? If so, he got exactly what he deserved.

  6. jasperjava August 27th, 2014 at 12:37 am

I feel way more sorry for the horror that the little girl will have to live with, than for the poor dumb dead gun nut.

  7. uzza August 27th, 2014 at 12:39 am

Not the first time. The exact same thing happened in 2008: gun range, 8 year old, supervision by a Certified Idiot, an UZI, full auto, recoil, —> one dead kid.

    You’d think they’d learn.

i think that’s the incident where the kid shot himself in the head.

  8. RioBravoHombre August 27th, 2014 at 12:47 am

Pin this directly to the tail of Ted Nugent, and the NRA. Their idiotic, asinine promotion of guns for everyone, including tiny children who have no business firing weapons made for war, is to blame for this incident. I feel nothing for this “instructor”, his death is the predictable result of his own idiotic gun fondling obsession. The parents are obviously also idiots who should hang their heads in shame for saddling their child with a horrific memory that will never fade. Ammosexuals have crowed about more guns making us safer, and this is the result.

9 year old gets wish ‘my first murder’: the weapon was put into the “fully-automatic” mode before the girl fired again with the instructor standing off to her left. “The guy just dropped” Darwin Award Winner!

  10. whatthe46 August 27th, 2014 at 1:54 am

what idiot put it on automatic in the first place? whoever changed it is just as responsible as the parents for allowing her to shoot an UZI in the first damn place. nothing could possibly go wrong.

    • viva_democracy August 27th, 2014 at 8:12 am

      The “well-trained” instructor changed it.

      • whatthe46 August 27th, 2014 at 9:19 am

if he pulls through this drooling, he will forever feel as stupid as he likely looks. dummy

        • edmeyer_able August 27th, 2014 at 9:46 am

          He didn’t…….smdh

  11. Jake August 27th, 2014 at 7:02 am

Guns don’t kill people – 9 year old girls kill people.

  12. edmeyer_able August 27th, 2014 at 8:45 am

You don’t learn gun safety w/an uzi, you don’t target practice w/an uzi. An uzi has one purpose, to kill people quickly. Guns are not toys for the amusement of children.
If the parents had realized this the instructor would be alive today.

  13. edmeyer_able August 27th, 2014 at 9:55 am

There is video of the instructor standing in the position reported on most news sites possibly seconds before it happened, hopefully it will be used as a warning for other gun ranges of WHAT NOT TO DO.

    • mea_mark August 27th, 2014 at 10:11 am

I saw the video on the news this morning, couldn’t believe how stupid the whole situation was and they were video taping their stupidity like it was something they would brag about later. When the instructors are idiots, what are the students going to turn out like? IDIOTS‼

  14. Mike N. August 27th, 2014 at 11:08 am

I’d like to think that there will be some kind of child endangerment charges against the parents, or at least a visit from Children’s Services, but, *sigh*, I doubt it. I did here, though, that the gun range changed the rules so now you have to be at least 12 years old and 5 feet tall. Kind of like Six Flags.

  15. WhodaThunkit August 27th, 2014 at 6:46 pm

Now maybe if gun instructors had some regulation, this may not have happened. Seems any gun toting yahoo is suddenly qualified to be an instructor.
