Video Surfaces: Black Man Being Tased By Cops While Picking Up Kids
Now we have a new crime: picking up your kids while black.[su_center_ad]
The video begins as the man, identified by the Minneapolis City Pages as Chris Lollie, 27, walks through the First National Bank Building Skyway after being asked to leave a public seating area by a store employee. A female officer follows, demanding to know his name and his problem with the shopkeeper. Lollie calmly tells her that he doesn’t have to give his name—he knows his rights—and that “The problem is I’m black. That’s the problem.” “I’ve got to go get my kids.” As they continue walking toward Lollie’s kids’ school, another officer—identified in the police report as Bruce Schmidt—approaches them. “What’s going on, brother?” Lollie says to him. “You’re going to go to jail. I’m not your brother, I’m not here to argue with you. Put your hands behind your back,” Officer Schmidt replies. Then Lollie drops his phone as the officer grabs him, causing the video to cut out. The audio continues, though: You can hear Lollie screaming for help, the sound of a stun gun charging up, and Lollie pleading “That’s my kids right there! My kids are right there!” as he’s being cuffed. “I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m a working man. I take care of my kids. And I get this?” he says near the end of the recording, “And you tase me. For what? I don’t have any weapons. You’re the ones with the weapons here.”

All this police violence against Black people is a Republican’s wet dream. I bet a lot of conservatives are enjoying this.
granpa.usthai August 28th, 2014 at 8:03 pm
probably as much as missing Military armaments designated to local LE’s to ‘fight a terrorist attack’ winding up in the hands of the heavily armed white unregulated militias in Nevada.
M D Reese August 28th, 2014 at 10:46 pm
Oh you KNOW that they are. It’s disgusting.
tnwoman1948 August 29th, 2014 at 6:26 am
i wonder how the black Republicans (Carson, Cain, Steele, and their ilk) feel about these incidences? Why aren’t they speaking out? smh
Linda1961 August 28th, 2014 at 8:02 pm
Why is a member of the public asked to leave a public seating area?
granpa.usthai August 28th, 2014 at 8:09 pm
because there is no heavily ARMED BLACK unregulated militia to keep everything less stressful.
mea_mark August 28th, 2014 at 8:23 pm
Wrong skin color.
tiredoftea August 28th, 2014 at 9:57 pm
The skyway in MPLS is private with the same regulations as a mall or similar property.
Linda1961 August 29th, 2014 at 6:06 am
The article says that it was a public area. A mall may be private, but is open to the public. To tell a black person to move smacks of Jim Crow.
tiredoftea August 29th, 2014 at 1:37 pm
I understand. I was simply pointing out that the tenants have more sway over who gets hassled. It’s wrong, no matter where it happens, but there may be more here that is not in the article about the impetus for the confrontation.
bhil August 29th, 2014 at 10:24 am
I suppose it wasn’t posted that being black was a violation.
tiredoftea August 29th, 2014 at 1:38 pm
Is it ever?
granpa.usthai August 28th, 2014 at 8:08 pm
this is another perfect reason why a heavily ARMED unregulated BLACK militia with Military grade weapons is such a good idea!
The public could sit in public seating areas and everything would be nice and stress free, just like Cliven Bundy’s Kows are now.
Military grade heavily ARMED unregulated BLACK militias are the way to go!!!
Nevada is the proof.
M D Reese August 28th, 2014 at 10:45 pm
They could patrol the malls and make sure that everyone stays polite.
mea_mark August 28th, 2014 at 8:09 pm
This kind of behavior should not be tolerated by any police department. Not only should the officers lose their jobs but the whole department should go through some retraining. Civil rights should not be so casually disregarded. Officers of the law, should not be above the law.
KB723 August 28th, 2014 at 9:02 pm
Perhaps, but did they break any law, enforcing the law??? A slippery Slope of what is law to us and what enforcing the *Law* is to them, look what’s happening, folks are being shot to death and not a thing is done about it, I do not justify such behavior, but when and who will enforce the law or simple conduct upon those who do???
edmeyer_able August 28th, 2014 at 9:27 pm
What law was being broken by Chris Lollie?
KB723 August 28th, 2014 at 9:38 pm
Perhaps the one he mentioned???
M D Reese August 28th, 2014 at 10:43 pm
You are making no sense. He was basically sitting in a public area waiting for his children while black. That is legal as far as I know.
KB723 August 28th, 2014 at 10:49 pm
Making no ‘Sense’ yet you reply…..
M D Reese August 30th, 2014 at 8:01 pm

edmeyer_able August 28th, 2014 at 8:21 pm
And where is the good Dr. Ben Carson speaking out against the injustices being perpetrated on his race, why haven’t we heard from Herman Cain or any republican pundit or politician seeking an investigation of any of the incidents.
tiredoftea August 28th, 2014 at 10:04 pm
Why would Dr. Carson and Mr. Cain make any effort to reduce the value of their investment portfolio? They likely hold REIT’s which probably includes commercial properties in MPLS. They got theirs.
Tommy6860 August 28th, 2014 at 8:49 pm
This whole situation makes it painfully clear that racism among rank and file police is commonplace. White cops stare down the barrels of guns aimed at black people, and they are just doing their job, keeping the peace. I want to see the public reaction of an all black police force, doing the very same things under the exact same circumstances to groups of white people.
This story gave me the sads, especially considering when this man had his children close by. :'(
edmeyer_able August 28th, 2014 at 8:52 pm
I just want to see the likes of Cain, Carson, West, Rubio, Jindal, Cruz speak on the subject. So far haven’t heard one word from any of them.
KB723 August 28th, 2014 at 8:58 pm
Why would any of them have anything to say, it is not the 99% they represent….
edmeyer_able August 28th, 2014 at 9:00 pm
After Ferguson it was mentioned that HRC had not spoken on the subject but none of any republican,
KB723 August 28th, 2014 at 9:05 pm
I am a bit confused my friend, did I miss something in your reply, I ask with no disrespect, I am just not sure what you meant…
edmeyer_able August 28th, 2014 at 9:25 pm
Not one pundit was looking for any republican to speak on what happened in Ferguson, either on the shooting or the police response to the demonstrations that took place every night.
KB723 August 28th, 2014 at 9:28 pm
Well, we know who controls the Media, but I was Curious why you threw HRC in the mix if she too has made no statement on the subject…
edmeyer_able August 28th, 2014 at 9:33 pm
Who controls the media, what does that mean? And why should H say anything about it she is not at this time an office holder.
KB723 August 28th, 2014 at 9:37 pm
That is what drew my curiosity…
Tammy Minton Haley August 28th, 2014 at 11:11 pm

M D Reese August 28th, 2014 at 10:40 pm
They will be on the side of the white cops.
bhil August 29th, 2014 at 10:19 am
All those so called elected representatives won’t say a word I suppose they don’t see a violation, you know trolling for cop votes and besides they are only working for a few days this month and the next, wouldn’t have the time to care.
Rational August 28th, 2014 at 9:32 pm
Obviously there is going to be a law suit and the cops are going to lose.
Time to start taking the settlements out of the Cops pension fund for their conspicuous bad behavior.
Let them eat cat food in their illdeserved retirement.
M D Reese August 28th, 2014 at 10:40 pm
Better yet–keep firing and/or jailing bad cops on top of the lawsuits.
whatthe46 August 28th, 2014 at 11:00 pm
exactly.
Rational August 29th, 2014 at 12:01 am
I agree but the “Law” union rules and the courts are stacked against that.
How to commit the perfect murder wear a badge that way even you’re caught red handed you could claim he was trying to get my gun. Even if the victim is 20 or 30 ft away.
Another idea is mandate that the police can only carry “Smart” guns so even if they lose control of the weapon it can’t be used against them.
greenfloyd August 29th, 2014 at 12:09 am
It’s 8 months since this happened and it does not appear any legal action has been initiated by Mr. Lollie. It’s a pity. Without cases like this, at least from what we can discern from the video/audio, need to get in front of judges, juries and most of all our elected representatives who are supposed to control the police! However, there may be more to this case then we know about. I want to know why the “store clerk” asked Mr. Lollie to leave and what happened in that interaction that prompted police involvement?
Denise August 28th, 2014 at 9:44 pm
OK, somebody needs to tell the cops in this country to quit violating the rights of blacks in this country. They are going to file lawsuits and the department will loose. The settlements are being paid for by taxpayers! This is not coming out of the pockets of law enforcement. If it were, they’d put a stop to it.
Carla Akins August 28th, 2014 at 9:44 pm
This just made my stomach turn. It was nothing other than a bully proving he could get away with humiliating him, forcing him to do as he says under the color of authority.
M D Reese August 28th, 2014 at 10:38 pm
I guess that the only way to get respect from the cops is to just keep suing the heck out of them until it’s cheaper to treat us like first class citizens.
whatthe46 August 28th, 2014 at 10:59 pm
i hope he sues the shit out of the P.D. and the owner of the building as the first cop who approached him is an agent of the owners. bastards.
whatthe46 August 28th, 2014 at 10:58 pm
i couldn’t even watch the video. so fuckin’ heartbreaking.
whatthe46 August 28th, 2014 at 11:10 pm
Steve Lohner (white) claims he was well within Colorado law while he walked in the area of South Buckley Road and East Iliff Avenue while carrying a shotgun. Police who were called to the scene say they weren’t able to determine if he was doing it legally. Lohner refused to show them an ID to prove he’s 18.
******
he was not tased, not shot, not arrested and left to continue walking the streets. yet this black man waiting for his children while sitting on a bench minding his business gets tased and arrested while only armed with a cell phone. nooooo racism doesn’t exist.
greenfloyd August 28th, 2014 at 11:52 pm
The only thing that makes me madder than these thugs with badges is this:
fancypants August 29th, 2014 at 3:22 am
kind of suspicious indeed It looks like this took place during the winter too and no false arrest complaint filed yet ?
FieryLocks August 29th, 2014 at 12:34 am
