Video: Georgia Family’s Horrible, Violent Reaction To Son Coming Out As Gay
20-year-old Daniel Ashley Pierce’s family members in Georgia were not accepting of him coming out as gay. In fact, he was punched in the face during an intervention, verbally abused and disowned. The interaction was videotaped and it’s making the rounds on various sites.
In one day, $52,461 has been raised to help Pierce start a new life, hopefully far away from his family.
[su_center_ad]In the video, the family members can be heard pounding their religiosity into Daniel (literally).
After he says that being gay is not a choice, a female family member says, “No, you can believe that if you want to, but I believe in the word of God, and God creates nobody that way. It’s a path that you have chosen to choose. … You go by all the scientific stuff you want to. I’m going by the word of God.”
The “intervention” is very difficult to watch.
“You’re full of s**t,” she says. “You told me on the phone that you made that choice. You know you wasn’t born that way. You know damn good and well you made that choice. You know that [your father] has done everything he can to raise you. … He didn’t need to blame himself,” a woman tells Daniel.
While Pierce asks a woman to stop hitting him, a man can be heard yelling,, “You’re a damn queer.”
Then he’s called, “a disgrace.”

I can imagine what happens in some houses when someone “comes out” or when a daughter brings home a boyfriend with a dark skin color, I bet there’s some big fireworks.

Says a lot about the ‘Parents’ No???

1. You’re 20 years old. Move out already.
2. You were told to move out. You chose to translate that as being disowned.
3. Grandma is a psycho.
4. So’s you’re uncle.

Everything Daniel’s parents said to him in his lifetime will now have the asterisk of “you’re a disgrace”.

This is why 40% of homeless youth are LGBT. This is why equality does not begin and end with same-sex marriage.
Kick Frenzy August 29th, 2014 at 12:10 pm
Dear bigoted family… you say you’re Christian, but going by the fruits you bear in just a 5 minute time span, you’re not.
Not even close.
R.J. Carter August 29th, 2014 at 12:53 pm
And by their fruits you shall know them. Thank you for pointing this out, when it would have been so much easier to say, “They call themselves Christians, so they must be. See how Christians are?”
Bunya August 29th, 2014 at 2:05 pm
I’ve come to the conclusion that we have two types of Christians in this world: the conservative Christian, who cherry pick their likes and dislikes from a book written over 2000 years ago by misogynistic homophobes, and liberal Christians, who actually follow the teachings of JC in the new testament.
R.J. Carter August 29th, 2014 at 2:08 pm
Well I guess I’m the wrong kind of Christian still. Please don’t force me to live on the side of a mountain awaiting airdrops of food and clothing.
Bunya August 29th, 2014 at 3:17 pm
You definitely don’t want to live there. Dropping food and clothing would be just another attempt by that commie, socialist, Marxist, Kenyan born, member of the Muslim Brotherhood, black president of ours trying to coerce others into “sucking off the government’s teat”! It’s best conservatives stay as far away from socialism as humanly possible.
But don’t you worry none. We’ll see if we can have Pat Robertson drop some bibles on you.
R.J. Carter August 29th, 2014 at 5:02 pm

Judgeforyourself37 August 29th, 2014 at 8:39 pm
The “Bible” even OKd slavery, and that wives should be “subject to their husband’s will,” or that if your child disobeys, you should take him/her to the “gates” of the city to be stoned, along with other such “goodies.” OMG, spare me the drivel spewed out by so called Christians.
neworleans878 August 29th, 2014 at 12:45 pm
Oh boy. Wish I hadn’t opened this. Going between anger and weeping for this kid.
I remember when my daughter came out to me. We went to a local 24 hour restaurant (St. Charles Tavern…remember that one Anomaly?) early in the morning because she told me she had something to tell me. When she told me that she was gay, my response was, “O.K., that’s fine, so what did you want to tell me?” She broke down with relief…even though she was 99.999% sure what my response would be.
Good God, folks, that’s your CHILD. Love them, hold them and accept who they are. Don’t believe in Heaven or Hell, but if they exist, don’t look for your kid in the after life because ya’ll be in the fire while he’s enjoying the after life.
ps…I knew she was gay long before she told me…didn’t ever change my love for her.

What a wonderful religion …. Don’t believe I heard the word love once !!!!
R.J. Carter August 29th, 2014 at 12:55 pm
You heard it early on in the video. It just got drowned out by all the actions opposing its definition.
JMax August 29th, 2014 at 12:57 pm
Woman says she’s known man was gay since he was a little boy while claiming it’s his choice. Go figure.
Daniel Jacobsen August 29th, 2014 at 1:25 pm
Damn I was wrong … She started out by telling him she loves him ….. Then goes on like how could you do this to us !!!!!! The world would be a better place without religion !!!!!

These people represent a significant portion of the “Republican Base”
Extreme right wing Christians, very low information voters, that Right Wing Politicians love to manipulate.
I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the guy, having a Family like THAT!

Vote for the next Republican presidential candidate and that is the mentality that will be sitting in the Oval Office.
Bunya August 29th, 2014 at 2:17 pm
People say things like, “I don’t hate gays, some of my best friends are gay. I don’t, however, approve of their lifestyle.” Or they’ll say, “We love the sinner, not the sin.” Both of these statements are total bullshit. This is just another way to launder their hatred through their god. Makes them look all self righteous and moral -you know, “I don’t hate gays, God does” type of thing.
These intolerant parents are setting themselves up for a very lonely remainder of their existence.

Angela Cancilla Heschel August 29th, 2014 at 3:06 pm
This family is a disgrace and I hope this video goes all over the world ..to see how hideous and outright stupid they have proven to be. He does not know how very lucky he is to be free of these monster brainwashed bigots . Lets not also forget that according to what is written, God wanted all races separate. He didn’t want us mixing at all, supposedly. This is why he scattered us, changed our languages and by inference our skin colors. That’s if of course you believe the story of the Tower of Babel found in Genesis 11:5-8. So I guess we pick and choose which bible “story” we’d like to support in the moment that’s convenient. Many Christians are living a double standard.
You are born gay it is not a choice..( life is already difficult enough!) . This behavior is seen in other species as well as in humans,1500 species, to be precise. Gays do no harm…they hurt no one . The bible we have to remember was after all written by Hebrew men….a higher being would be too wise to be that judgmental and cruel..to condone a hatred for gays .
It is an inherited gene ( from “STRAIGHT” parent (s) that runs in families .
It does no harm to others.
Religious people make it a religious one because its easy to do when the fact is they don’t like gay people. Homosexuality is much more than what two people choose to do in their bedrooms.. And where are all the so called Christians who say they are not all like this standing up and condemning this unconscionable behavior that only makes Christians look like they are still all part of the Spanish Inquisition …hello ? where are all of you ? The silence of all you hypocrites afraid to speak up …is deafening !

We are a nation of morons.
Elliot J. Stamler August 30th, 2014 at 7:45 pm
NO WE ARE NOT. But the south is a region of morons. Not all but most. And also some of the mountain/mid-western states are pretty moronic.
Roy Blankenship August 30th, 2014 at 8:54 pm
I have lived in 8 major metropolitan areas. There are hicks everywhere. Look at how many people think GW was a great President. Look how many people voted for Mitt Romney and Lyin’ Ryan, in spite of the dozens of lies they told. Look at the people who think Obama was responsible for the lack of response during Katrina. Look at the people who are sure Obama is a Muslim dictator who is going to turn the country over to the black race, take all the guns and put us in FEMA camps. Look at the Supreme Court decisions on Citizens United and Hobby Lobby. Look at how our Congress is lining their pockets while letting the Koch brothers dismantle the environment for their own personal gain. Look at how the Waltons have become the nation’s richest family while paying starvation wages and letting the government subsidize their employees with food stamps at OUR expense. What happened to our once great country?
meangreen1 August 29th, 2014 at 4:52 pm
INSANE if being gay was a choice you would be a fool to make that choice and suffer the abuse that goes with it! If you can’t take people as they are then kill yourself.
whatthe46 August 29th, 2014 at 8:15 pm
exactly. what part of that logic doesn’t people seem to understand. people don’t choose their birth parents either, did they ever think of it that way?

“People at this level of English may see the ‘homo’ side and think it has something to do with gay sex,” the owner, Clarke Woodger, allegedly told Tim Torkildson while firing him last week. He then continued, “I’m letting you go because I can’t trust you, this blog about homophones was the last straw. Now our school is going to be associated with homosexuality.”

Daniel’s family are a disgrace to Christians.
Elliot J. Stamler August 30th, 2014 at 7:44 pm
Typical of southern (and non-southern) fundamentalist, evangelical religious rightists who most probably are southern Baptists. Note the idiot woman said they don’t give a damn about science. What can you expect from people who send to Congress someone like DR. Paul Broun, M.D. of Georgia who yelled that evolution is from the pits of hell and that the earth was in fact created in 7 24-hour days. Oh am I glad I am a Yankee. And by the way, this family is in my humble and respectful non-Christian opinion an absolute abomination to Christianity and what Jesus taught.
SkeeterVT September 3rd, 2014 at 1:12 pm
Brainwashed religious extremists cannot be expected to be accepting of ANYONE who thinks or lives differently form themselves. On the contrary, they will seek to force people who think and live differently form themselves to their way of thinking and living — or destroy them if they can’t.
