Saudi Husband Tells Bride He Wants Divorce After Seeing Her Face For The First Time
[su_right_ad]The bride (not pictured) was, understandably, in tears when her veil was removed and her husband of a few minutes was not pleased.
The couple, from the Western Saudi town of Medinah, had agreed to marry each other despite having not met face to face – a popular custom in certain Middle Eastern countries.
But when the bride removed her veil and smiled for the camera, her new husband leapt to his feet in disgust.
‘You are not the girl I want to marry,’ he declared. ‘You are not the one I had imagined. I am sorry, but I divorce you.’
According to local daily Okaz, the bride immediately collapsed in a fit of tears as panicked wedding guests stepped in to try to resolve the dispute.
But their efforts were to no avail.[su_csky_ad]

That’s just awful. What was he expecting? Did they get to know each other along the way or was it like “Hey! Today’s the day!” and boom. Does that mean he can be stoned for breaking some sort of family honor? (Not that I’m advocating violence but I have heard of women being killed for such.)

she’s always under veil so no. these marriages are typically arranged so they usually never meet and even if they did, he wouldn’t have known what she looked like. and the men can divorce for whatever stupid reason.

That’s horrible! The worst part is (IIRC), the women there don’t get that option. I’ll admit, there’s something to be said about attraction, but knowing a person’s heart is a huge thing for me and things develop. Considering this bastard’s retraction; had the woman been attractive in his eyes, she’d been nothing more than a piece of meat.
