Video: Real Or Fake? Their Car Struck By Lightning After Thieves Rob Church
According to this video from St. Petersburg, Russia, thieves robbed a church and their car was then struck by lightening during the getaway as they were followed by police, killing everyone in the car.

All things being equal, I’m going with fake and a kudo.
Physics states that the stream of energy will seek out the shortest possible path to ground. Traveling through a car which is naturally insulated by rubber tires is a terrible path. Then, you have a sudden detonation like a stick of dynamite. If the fuel tank was actually ignited from within due to an electrical spark, it would most likely not explode as there’s insufficient O2 to interact with the fuel. Gasoline is flammable in liquid form, not explosive.

I assume you mean “insulated from ground by rubber tires,” but this is especially unlikely since there are several perfectly nice tall trees nearby which would almost surely have been the path of travel to ground. Plus, I’m not seeing any bolt from the sky above the car, nor am I hearing that characteristic sharp crack of thunder. And there is that sudden edit which occurs at the moment of explosion, too, so yeah, looks like someone just blowed something up real good in the road, and spun a little tale about “divine retribution” for laffs.
Edited to add this: Shoulda looked it up first, but better late than never, I guess: Sure enough, Snopes has the dopes, and pronounces it “false.”

given that Russia is pretty much filled with wannabe terrorists im going to say this group had explosives in the car and one fool decided to have a cigarette….. BOOM
I think the lightning story was used to dummy down the situation
