U of Oklahoma Frat House Mom Taped Chanting Racist Slurs

[su_right_ad]In a 2013 Vine discovered by the University of Oklahoma’s student newspaper, a seemingly intoxicated Sigma Alpha Epsilon house mother chants “nigger, nigger, nigger” along to Trinidad James’ “All Gold Everything.”
…Earlier Monday, Gilbow was interviewed, along with OU head coach Barry Switzer, by KWTV about whether she had known about the racist song depicted in the leaked video:
“I don’t know what I’m doing. I mean, I’m in shock,” Beauton Gilbow, the SAE House Mother said.
“Did you ever get any indication there was anything like this going on?” News 9’s Kelly Ogle asked.
“No, no, no. Never heard the song,” Gilbow responded.

WOAWWWW!!…you seem to be conflating two stories here. The top video is a story about a bus journey on which the frat boys were chanting “There will never be a ni**** SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me.”
The second video clearly shows Frat Mom making a fool of herself – I have opinions on that which I’ll post separately.
The comment below the videos is her comment on the events of the first video, but you’ve put it in a way which makes it look like she’s denying the second video!
Accuracy is important, otherwise we become just like them.

Maybe we shouldn’t rush to judgement here. Maybe she is a huge racist, in which case she deserves the ire of the internet. But maybe there’s context in this video which some may chose to ignore.
She’s speaking over the top of a song called All Gold Everything – a song in which the word ‘nigga’ is repeated many times, and in the fashion which she apes. Does her reaction to the song make her racist? Really?
As I said, maybe she is a signed-up member of the KKK, but this is weak evidence.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I was reared to not say things that I know are wrong. She could have been repeating the “n” word in accordance with the words in the song, but it doesn’t excuse her because she knew it was wrong to do so when she did it.

Yes, you’re right in saying what she said is wrong, that’s clear to any right-thinking individual. But all I see here is a silly old white woman repeating lyrics of a song by a silly young black man. Both are equally irresponsible in their language.
But that isn’t the point I’m trying to make. My concern is that this woman is being pilloried as a racist when there’s no good evidence that it’s true. Simple stupidity and racism are waaaay different things.
By the way, on balance, I’m willing to believe that actually, she is likely to be a racist. But she doesn’t deserve to be publicly ridiculed on this video without context.

I heard two students have been expelled, I am glad the University is not sitting around waiting for the story to die down before they do something about these actions. You want to stop hate and bigotry, nip it in the bud.

Problem is they are being expelled for speech. No matter how offensive it is still a protected right.
