We are so, so civilized. Not.

Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert might sign a proposal that would make it legal to use firing squads during executions — but only if state cannot obtain the legal drugs for lethal injections, he said during a press conference Thursday, NBC News wrote. The governor prefers lethal injection to bullets, but may sign the proposal because…

It seems kind of like a threat…give me the drugs or I will shoot them.

      Well stated, young lady

“We are so, so civilized. Not.”

At least the people being shot are clearly identified and have been found guilty by a jury. You can’t say that about everyone we kill using military drones.

Jan 23, 2014: “The U.S. drone program under President Barack Obama reached its fifth anniversary on Thursday having tallied up an estimated death toll of at least 2,400 people. The drone war is under increasing scrutiny in the U.S. and abroad. A September U.N. report warned that drone warfare has the potential to greatly undermine global stability.”

If the drone strikes are a good idea, or at least a necessary evil, then why should I be concerned about firing squads executing people convicted of heinous crimes?

      Start here…

The problem of executing the wrong person also exists with drone strikes, and probably to a much higher degree. You haven’t answered my question: Why should I be more concerned about firing squads than about drone strikes? As long as the Left continues to give Obama a pass on drone strikes, they have no right to criticize firing squads. A drone strike is just a remotely-controlled, airborne firing squad. A drone strike occurs when somebody in the US decides that somebody in a foreign country no longer deserves to live, even though that person does not present an imminent threat to the US. That’s essentially the same situation we have with the death penalty.

False equivalency: in war, sadly there cannot help but be innocents killed. Would you rather we firebombed entire cities, like in WWII? We’d get those bad guys, at a higher cost than the current method. And that was the “Greatest Generation”, btw…today, it seems like it’s all on Obama.

          With execution,it’s entirely avoidable.
Quit trying to turn this into some slam on the POTUS.

          • Robert M. Snyder March 20th, 2015 at 1:42 pm

It is not a false equivalency. In actual warfare, your goal is to take possession of a piece of land or a city. If the people defending it shoot at you, you shoot back because they are directly threatening your life. After you’ve taken control of the land and captured prisoners, you do not shoot the prisoners because they are no longer an immediate threat to your safety.

Shooting people from drones is morally equivalent to shooting people with a firing squad. In both cases, you are killing people who you deem likely to present a future threat, but who do not present a current threat, to your society.

For the record, I am opposed to the death penalty and to drone strikes. When I talk with fellow conservatives, they think that drone strikes are a good thing. Surprisingly, most liberals seem to agree, hence the astonishing lack of criticism of Obama’s increased use of drones.

If you are uncomfortable with firing squads, how can you be comfortable with drone strikes?

            Great post

            Obama has executed people.

            That is a true statement

          • bpollen March 20th, 2015 at 3:50 pm

Please, name the people, location, method of execution, and please provide pictures of Obama doing the deed. If it’s a true statement, there should be some corroboration out there in the universe that you could provide to support your claim.

Or, alternatively, you could just continue to post unsubstantiated claims: “Obama took my crayons!”

          • Hirightnow March 20th, 2015 at 6:34 pm

            Substitute “Obama”” with “Bush”.
Then leap off of that high horse, fake concern troll.

“At least the people being shot are clearly identified and have been found guilty by a jury.”
And it’s all fun and games – that is until later when they find evidence that exonerates the person you just killed. Do you have any ideas on how to bring him back to life?

      • Robert M. Snyder March 20th, 2015 at 2:28 pm

Do you have any ideas on how to bring innocent Pakistanis back to life who were incorrectly targeted by drone strikes? Pak lives matter.

        • Bunya March 20th, 2015 at 2:38 pm

Probably the same way we’re bringing back the 300,000 Muslims and 4000+ American soldiers whose lives were lost in an unnecessary war for profit. Not to mention all the American lives lost on 9/11 because Dubya and the Dickster decided they couldn’t be bothered with any intelligence information received from a democrat.

        Doesn’t seem to bother Texas.

  3. Hirightnow March 20th, 2015 at 12:38 pm

Make sure that EVERY member of the firing squad has real ammunition, and knows it.
Then publish their names, seeing as how they’re government employees performing a function.
(Publish lists of volunteers,as well; open government and all…)

    • FatRat March 20th, 2015 at 1:12 pm

      Add these two.

      1) Governor is a mandatory shooter.

      2) Shooters are financially liable and legally responsible for any overturned convictions. Either life in solitary confinement, no possibility of parole or firing squad.
