Spouse-Swap Show Has Couples Committing Adultery

The television show called “The Seven Year Switch” involves couples sleeping with strangers.
It’s named after The Seven Year Itch, the 1955 Broadway play-turned-Billy Wilder movie starring Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell. Hopefully that will be lost on most viewers of this series because if they saw it, they’re too old to be FYI’s target audience — or any network’s for that matter.
In today’s announcement, FYI instead focused on the fact that someone at some point decided seven years marks the point in many marriages at which couples become “restless and dissatisfied” and might wonder why they’d signed up with this guy instead of the doctor their mothers wanted them to marry. In the series, four couples “at a crossroads in their relationship” — FYI did not say if they’ve all been married seven years — get the chance to shack up with a stranger for two weeks in an “experimental marriage.”

Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson. I know that because I’m a Yankee fan, not a swingers fan. Except at baseballs. It was in the 70’s. They switched entire families, including dogs. I think Peterson stayed married to his new wife, but Kekich got divorced.

That’s how confession worked when I was growing up catholic. Then I just grew up. Confession was one of the least favorite parts of being catholic as a kid, having to tell your “sins” to some old guy. What kind of “sins” does an 8 year old have?

It has to be tolerated, but that doesn’t mean it has to be made public. If two couples agree to swap, that’s their business. They don’t need to make it everyone else’s business. But if they choose to do that, don’t expect me to watch. But I wouldn’t watch a happily married couple having sex with each other either. So it has nothing to do with liberal or conservative. There are plenty of adulterers on both sides of the political fence.
