It’s odd how homophobes so often think of gays in sexual terms and use language that reveals what they visualize.

Cathie Adams, former chair of the Texas Republican Party, visited Al Jazeera America this week to share her opposition to all things LGBT. And at one point, anchor David Shuster had to physically hold back his laughter when Adams responded to his question with one of her own about man-on-man “penetration.”

During her appearance on the show, Adams put forward her defense of so-called “gay conversion therapy” that aims to “cure” homosexuality. At one point during the interview, Shuster asked his guest, “If the United States Supreme Court declares that homosexual marriage is legal, that there isn’t something abhorrent about it and that they can get the same rights, the same benefits as every other American — if the United States Supreme Court says it is legal, will you abide by what the United States Supreme Court says?”

Instead of answering that question, Adams surprised Shuster by asking in return, “Do you think that a man’s body is meant for penetration by another man or is a man’s body meant to be in union with a woman whose body is built for that behavior?”
