Walker Signs Abortion Ban

Scott Walker has signed a 20-week abortion ban in Wisconsin.
The law bans so called “late-term” abortions unless there is a serious risk to the mother’s life or health. The move by the presidential candidate makes Wisconsin one of 15 states that have similar bans.Similar legislation is being considered in Congress. The House has passed the bill, and the Senate is looking to mark up legislation in September, galvanized in part by a new viral video of comments by a Planned Parenthood executive on abortion.
The measures are open to legal challenge, though. In May, a federal appeals court struck down a 20-week abortion ban in Idaho for violating Supreme Court precedent protecting abortions up to the point of viability, considered to be around 24 weeks.
An Arizona ban was also struck down in 2013, and the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal of that decision.
