A Suffolk, VA man says he’d go to jail before he’d remove his Confederate flag tags from his car.

Kevin Collier says his decision is based on principle.

The specialty plates for the members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, which Collier is a member, display the Confederate Battle flag.A U.S. Supreme Court decision in June decided in a Texas case that the state could prohibit the flag from being displayed.

“I have a great-great-great grandfather who fought and died with the 5th Georgia Infantry. And his four brothers all died with him in the name of that flag,” Collier said…

It is a class 2 misdemeanor to operate a vehicle with inactive plates, according to the Virginia DMV.

“I will go to jail before I change those tags,” concluded Collier.
