A federal appeals court is standing in the way of President Obama’s executive order that would give relief to 5 million undocumented immigrants.

The fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans upheld a decision by a Texas judge to prevent five million undocumented immigrants from remaining in the country.

The ruling was not unexpected, as the fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is considered one of the most conservative in the country.

“Today’s ruling is not a surprise but is still a disappointment,” Mi Familia Vota Executive Director Ben Monterroso said.

“We have understood from the beginning of this politically driven lawsuit that the case would likely go to the U.S. Supreme Court. We urge the U.S. Department of Justice to waste no time in filing an appeal to the Supreme Court.”
