They’ve tried to claim Martin Luther King, Jr, and now Harriet Tubman.
A conservative Facebook post claiming that Harriet Tubman was a gun-toting Republican who shot Democrats is false and included a photo of an African American woman who was not Tubman, according to Snopes. The popular debunking site says the conservative post was vaguely based in truth because Tubman was thought to have carried a gun while helping slaves escape….”the biggest piece of misinformation included in this image macro is the photograph,” Snopes reports.”The woman pictured is not abolitionist Harriet Tubman but rather Mary Fields, also known as Stagecoach Mary, the first African-American mail carrier employed by the United States Post Office.”
