David Farenthold of the Washington Post came up with this new reveal.

Fahrenhold has been pursuing the Trump Foundation money trail for months as Trump has talked up his philanthropy while providing little in the way of actual information as to who or what groups have received money.

In a report issued Saturday afternoon, The Washington Post is reporting one recipient receiving over a quarter of million dollars in charity funds — Trump’s Plaza Hotel for the restoration of a fountain out front.

According to interviews with various groups and organizations who have sought donations from Trump, the New York developer was quite happy to show up at charity events only to walk away without leaving a check.

In the case on a 1996 ribbon-cutting in Manhattan for the Association to Benefit Children which was opening a new nursery school serving children with AIDS, big money donors were given seats up front — where Trump joined them despite not giving a cent.

“Nobody knew he was coming,” said Abigail Disney, one of the donors on the dais. “There’s this kind of ruckus at the door, and I don’t know what was going on, and in comes Donald Trump. [He] just gets up on the podium and sits down.”

According to attendees, Trump sat through the ceremony, basking in the adulation, only to get up and leave after photos were taken.

As Disney remembers thinking of Trump, “I mean, what’s wrong with you, man?”
