Rick Perry to be nominated for department he couldn’t remember he wanted to eliminate
Rick Perry’s “oops” moment came when he couldn’t remember that the Department of Energy was one of three he wanted to eliminate when he sought the Republican nomination in 2012. Now he is being named to head it.
The former GOP presidential hopeful beat out two contenders for the Cabinet post: Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat representing West Virginia, and Ray Washburne, a Dallas investor working in oil and gas operations, CBS News reported.

On Monday, Perry attended a meeting at Trump Towers but didn’t take questions from reporters.
The Energy Department is the same federal agency Perry wanted to eliminate — and then forgot to name when asked which departments he would shut down.
“I will tell you, it is three agencies of government when I get there that are gone: Commerce, Education, and — what’s the third one there? Let’s see,” Perry said during a Republican presidential primary debate in November 2011.
