Here’s what’s known so far.

  • The shooting suspect had a military ID, with the name Esteban Santiago on it, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson told ABC News. It’s unknown if the ID is legitimate and the suspect’s.
  • The shooter reportedly flew into the airport from outside Florida, potentially Alaska or Canada, with a gun in his checked-in luggage. He then went to a bathroom and loaded the gun before opening fire, a Broward County commissioner told ABC News.

  • It is “too early to say” whether the attack was terror-related, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said at a press conference.
  • By 1:11 pm, Ari Fleischer, a former George W. Bush official who was apparently on the ground, tweeted that things have calmed down but some people are still being held at the airport.
