Steve Bannon’s telling temper tantrum

President Donald Trump’s chief strategist has escalated the administration’s war with the media, labeling it “the opposition party” and suggesting that it “keep its mouth shut.”
“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Steve Bannon said during a rare interview with The New York Times on Wednesday.
“I want you to quote this,” Bannon told the Times. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”
The remarks from Bannon, a right-wing populist and former executive at the aggressively anti-mainstream media website Breitbart, come as tensions between Trump’s White House and the media are running high.

Kristol responded by calling Bannon a “sensitive guy … Such a snowflake, really, right?” Kristol continued, “Poor guy, he’s in the White House. They’ve been there five, six days. He’s been looking forward to four years. Six months ago he’s editing a fringe website, now he’s in the White House.”
“He’s so insecure,” said Kristol. “I mean his boss Donald Trump is, too. All they can do is attack the media?”
There is no doubt that Bannon’s fury is in part a reaction to the media calling bullshit on the administration’s claims about the inauguration turnout – and that Bannon comes across as a bitter whiner who now understands that he and his boss do not control the narrative. Tactless Bannon’s outburst pretty much gave away the White House’s public relations game, a policy of bullying and intimidation that parallel’s the boss’s reputation and actions – and it is not working. And remember, this comes from the same guy who managed a Web site that was caught red-state-handed in effect lying about Shirley Sherrod.
