Donald Trump baffled the world by claiming there was some kind of terrorist incident in Sweden during his crazed Saturday rally in Florida. It turns out that he’d heard something or other on the news – and completely mangled it.

Nevertheless, CNN’s international reporter Ian Watson decided to look into the matter. Did they find violent Islamic extremists? No, but they did run into some news about this moose

Reporting from Stockholm on Monday, Watson told CNN host Ana Cabrera that he had been unable to back up Trump’s claims.

“There was a car chase here in Stockholm with an inebriated driver,” Watson said, citing a crime blotter published in a local paper.

“There was an incident involving a moose getting very intimate with a wooden moose somewhere upcountry,” the CNN reporter added. “But nothing that really seemed to fit a pattern of Islamic-inspired terrorism. In fact, this country hasn’t seen an attack like that in years and years.”

The Independent gleaned more shocking details of this threat to wooden mooses everywhere from Sweden’s Aftenblatten:

11:23 AM: Ok, let’s not be fake news, this story took place in the autumn, but was reported Friday before lunch and we thought you would like it. A wooden moose got the attention of a lovesick moose bull. It all happened in 79 year old Ove Lindqvist’s garden in Byske outside Skellefteå, northern Sweden. ”I thought it was going to start a fight, instead it humped the wooden moose thrice”, he said.
