Why McConnell hit the panic button, punted vote on ‘Wealthcare’ Death Panel bill until after July 4th
According to MSNBC, Senate Majority Leader Mitch “Post Turtle” McConnell (R-NRA/PhRMA) will postpone a vote on their version of the “Let Americans Die Act” – er, “American Wealth Care ACT” – um, “Trumpcare Bill” until after the Fourth of July recess.
Reuters adds, “McConnell and other Republican leaders have been pressing to round up enough support for the healthcare legislation, but still appeared to be several votes short.”
At least seven Republican Senators have announced that they will not vote for the bill – several adding the words “in its current form,” a hint that they may horse-trade a yes vote for something they really, really want.
The reason for McConnell’s freakout? Numbers don’t lie.
The forecast by Congress’s nonpartisan budget scorekeepers appeared to rapidly erode Republicans’ confidence in the bill, with at least five GOP lawmakers saying that they would vote against even a procedural motion to start debate.
In a sign of the challenge Senate Republicans face in mustering enough votes, Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Tex.) said the procedural vote is likely to be scheduled for Wednesday rather than Tuesday.
Republicans also face the fact that the media has begun to pick up on the fact that this “reform” bill would in fact be the largest tax cut – and giveback – to the wealthy.
Senators headed to their home states are likely to face the white-hot heat of many of the 22 million constituents who might lose their Obamacare. Sad!
