UPDATED! Pence’s phony, embarrassing NFL stunt defines his lack of integrity
Mike Pence, who was attending today’s NFL Colts-49ers match-up, walked out after several players took the knee in memory of young men killed by racist “law enforcers.” He explained why he clutched his pearls and stumbled to the fainting couch in a series of tweets:
I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.
— Vice President Pence (@VP) October 8, 2017
…now, more than ever, we should rally around our Flag and everything that unites us…
— Vice President Pence (@VP) October 8, 2017
While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I don’t think it’s too much to ask NFL players to respect the Flag and our National Anthem
— Vice President Pence (@VP) October 8, 2017
Let’s not get into the fact that elected officials are duty-bound to listen to and understand the underlying reason for citizens’ “own opinions” on pressing issues – other than to say an elected politician like Pence sounds like a racist tool making such a statement.
As Raw Story’s Travis Gettys points out, Donald Trump was stupid enough to reveal that the stunt was premeditated with Pence:
President Donald Trump confirmed that he ordered Vice President Mike Pence to leave Sunday’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers if any players protested during the National Anthem.
Some of them did, so the vice president walked out. … Social media users weren’t fooled, and called out Pence for attending the game at taxpayer expense for what appeared to be a political stunt.
The president confirmed their suspicions a short time later in his own tweet:
I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country. I am proud of him and @SecondLady Karen.

Slick move, Donald! Keep up the good fail!
And there’s this additional, telling detail from NBC’s Peter Alexander:
FLAG: Was Pence leaving Colts game a political stunt? Reporters were told to stay in van bc “there may be an early departure from the game.”
— Peter Alexander (@PeterAlexander) October 8, 2017
The entire thing was a set-up to generate press buzz against political feee speech.
As for you, Mike Pence, you’ve provided yet another piece of evidence that you are a pious, self-righteous, and not very slick phony.
