Judd Legum explains why the Hillary Clinton uranium ‘scandal’ is bogus
For those of you who don’t use — or just plain ignore — what my Aunt Iddy cals “the Tweeter,” here is a Twitter thread by Think Progress editor Judd Legum laying out the Bannon-fueled fake “scandal” that is HillaryUraniumGate.
1. Ok, I don’t want to do this, but let’s talk about Uranium One
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
2. The first thing you should know is that this “scandal” comes from a book that Steve Bannon put out in July 2016 https://t.co/A99psOgQ1c
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
3. It was filled with errors. For example, we exposed how 1 “scandal” in the book was based on a fake press release https://t.co/EzMuikfmTv pic.twitter.com/ohypj6VZFn
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
4. Nevertheless, the NYT and WaPo both struck deals with Bannon to partner with hi on reporting from the book https://t.co/aaKNNtHczp

5. As for Uranium One, claim is Hillary approved the sale to a state-owned Russian company in exchange for money to Clinton Foundation
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
6. The problem is: 1. Hillary Clinton could not have blocked the sale. She was one of NINE cabinet members on a committee
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
7. She didn’t even sit on the committee, she delegated the role to a deputy. But, whatever, no one on the committee objected
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
8. Second problem: The claim is that $145 million went to Clinton Foundation from Uranium One investors. Not true. https://t.co/8iE166xdGA
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
9. The timing of these donations don't line up. All but about $1 million from these "investors" had divested BEFORE the sale was approved
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
10. Further there isn’t a shred of evidence that Hillary Clinton had any role whatsoever in pushing the sale through
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) October 27, 2017
11. So it’s a completely fake scandal based on two false premises from an already suspect and discredited book. But let’s run with it!
