Russiagate update: That session with Sessions has ramifications
Tuesday was a slow day for Reussiagate news outside of Jeff Sessions’ turgid performance before the House Judiciary Committee, which the NY Times wraps up with a bow (though you should not ignore our analysis of the big takeaways). There are two “post-game” analyses we think you should take a look at:
- Former Watergate prosecutor Nick Ackerman told MSNBC’s Ari Melber that Special Prosecutor Bob Mueller may now have enough goods to prosecute Sessions for perjury.
- Sessions made several comments which will no doubt anger Crazy Uncle Dotard — perhaps enough to prompt him to shame or even fire Sessions.
There are several stories that were drowned out by Sessions’s testimony:
- Bloomberg takes a look at Mueller’s focus on the Trump campaign’s foreign policy team — which was headed by Sessions.
- David Brock’s Bridge Project has launched a campaign to defend Mueller.
- Richard Wolffe has a nice analysis piece at The Guradian on Team Trump’s “Moscow memory” problem.
- “It does not bode well for the future of this country and the democratic systems that are so enshrined in both legal documents and public understanding of American politics if the leaders of the nation respond in such a flippant manner to some of the most severe allegations of collusion in history.” Here’s an op-ed you should read!
