Alabama upset: Doug Jones delivers Roy Moore, Trump, GOP humiliating loss
Well, well, well. Democrat Doug Jones scored an epic election upset in last night’s Alabama special election for the US Senate, and will replace Jeff Sessions and temporary placeholder Luther Strange. Republicans and (despite a somewhat congratulatory tweet) Donald Trump are freaking out.
Naturally, the big win triggered an onslaught of other headlines:
- Republican Roy Moore churlishly refused to concede. Earlier in the evening, reporters for The Washington Post were turned away from the Moore campaign watch party.
- Trump ally on Moore loss: ‘Everyone is going to start panicking’
- Oh, snap! Here’s another reason we love Maxine Waters.
- Trump was reportedly ‘enraged’ by Ivanka’s condemnation of Roy Moore — and could blame her for Senate loss
- Fox News is worried Moore’s loss means Trump might be held accountable for sexual assault.
- Burn, baby, burn! Steve Bannon vows to ‘pour gasoline’ on his war with the GOP establishment.
Sounds like fun, Steve! Flame on!
