Black lawmakers shame Tennessee Republicans after they punish Memphis for removing statue of KKK leader
Tennessee’s Republican-dominated state legislature this week voted to punish the black-majority city of Memphis because it had removed two Confederate memorial statues — including a statue of former Ku Klux Klan leader Nathan Bedford Forrest.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that Tennessee’s state legislature has voted to take away $250,000 that was originally set aside to be spent at Memphis’s upcoming bicentennial celebration. MORE…
