Police Rescue Boy Handcuffed To Porch, Dead Chicken Around His Neck
We wish we were making that headline up. The situation is even more horrific in that one of the adults arrested is in the social services sector:
An 11-year-old boy was found handcuffed to his foster parents’ porch with a dead chicken around his neck in North Carolina Friday.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dorian Lee Harper, 57, and Wanda Sue Larson, 57, – a local Department of Social Services supervisor, after police searched the home and found “shocking” conditions,” said Sheriff Eddie Cathey in a statement.
“I can assure you that we have only just begun our investigation into what has happened, and we will pursue it to its fullest extent,” he said.
A deputy sheriff was responding to another call in the Monroe N.C. neighborhood Friday afternoon and saw the boy handcuffed to the porch, police said. The dead chicken was hanging from his neck and the boy was shivering, authorities said.
Wanda Sue Larson, 57, who is a Union County DSS worker and lived at the home, was also arrested.
When the deputy approached the home Harper exited the house and asked the officer why he was there. Harper gave the deputy his license but then another child in the house opened the door and released several large dogs – forcing the officer to flee to his car.
Larson then took the child inside and threw the chicken carcass into a barrel, authorities said.
