Qatar’s New Soccer Stadium Design Looks, Um, Er, Ahem…
… an awful lot like a certain part of the female anatomy, and we have this hunch that it won’t go over too well with some of the locals:
The architects behind Al Wakrah Stadium wanted the 2022 Qatar World Cup venue to look like a boat. They ended up designing a giant vagina.
That’s the general consensus after images of the proposed 40,000-seat arena were released by design firm AECOM, which claimed to be inspired by “the dhow boat that carried generations of local fishermen and pearl divers.”
Quite the idyllic description, but people are simply seeing something that appeals to their most basic instincts.
“Any discerning human will be quick to recognize that the building looks exactly like an enormous vagina,” feminist blog Jezebel wrote about the not-so-subliminal design.
The stadium’s roof is what’s earning the state-of-the-art facility comparisons to a certain part of the female anatomy. …
The unintended sexual imagery of Al Wakrah Stadium must surely be an embarrassment for the government of Qatar, an Islamic state that enforces Sharia law and punishes homosexuality with up to five years in prison.
