Texas Lawmaker Faces Felony Charge For Taking Gun Through Airport Security
Texas Republican State Rep. Drew Darby tried taking a gun through security at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Darby says he forgot there was a handgun in his bag.
Darby was shown as booked into Travis County Jail at 7:22 a.m. on Nov. 14 after he was found to be carrying a .38 caliber Ruger and six rounds of ammunition in a magazine during the security screening that morning, the affidavit said.
The Associated Press reported Friday that Darby issued a statement saying he regretted the Nov. 14 incident. He faces a felony charge for taking a weapon into a prohibited area, according to an arrest affidavit.
The weapon was found to be in Darby’s brown leather carry-on bag and detected during an X-ray screening and subsequent search of Darby’s luggage, the affidavit said.
Just a helpful hint: It’s always good to know where your gun is, especially while traveling.
