Jeb Bush, Other Conservatives Falsely Accuse Obama Of ‘Closing’ Vatican Embassy
President Obama is being accused of closing the Vatican embassy as retribution for Catholic opposition to birth control when, in fact, the embassy is moving closer to the Vatican.
Bush tweeted his opinion of the decision on Wednesday evening.
“Why would our President close our Embassy to the Vatican?” Bush tweeted. “Hopefully, it is not retribution for Catholic organizations opposing Obamacare.”
In actuality, the embassy is not being closed, but moved. In a move expected to save the U.S. government $1.4 million a year, the Vatican facility and the U.S. Mission to the United Nations will be moved to a larger compound shared with the U.S. Embassy in Italy.
Bush isn’t alone in his false accusation.
…the National Republican Senatorial Committee created a petition this week that say “President Obama plans to close the U.S. Embassy to the Vatican.”
The NRSC’s spokesperson, like Bush, slammed administration for hostile actions.
“This certainly isn’t the first time that the Obama administration has been perceived as taking actions hostile toward religion and religious freedom,” Brad Dayspring told CNN Wednesday.
