Michigan Store Greeter Saves Customer’s Van From Fire – Then Gets Fired
It seems especially churlish during the holiday season that an employer should deem “no good deed goes unpunished” on a well-meaning employee:
A Michigan supermarket greeter’s heroic act has cost him his job.
David Bowers used a fire extinguisher to save a customer’s flaming van in the parking lot of a Meijer store, but his bosses were reportedly upset he’d abandoned his position.
“The one supervisor told me my heart was in the right place, but my brain wasn’t,” Bowers told WPBN TV.
Bowers was working the front door of the store in Gaylord, Mich., when the customer burst in, frantically searching for help. Bowers knew he was violating company policy by leaving his post, he said, but it seemed like the right thing to do.
