The Republican Party is signaling to the world that it denies science. On a party line vote, the House passed an amendment sponsored by Rep. David McKinley of West Virginia to prevent funds from going to the Defense Department to address how climate change affects national security. McKinley’s amendment reads:

None of the funds authorized to be appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used to implement the U.S. Global Change Research Program National Climate Assessment, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fifth Assessment Report, the United Nation’s Agenda 21 sustainable development plan, or the May 2013 Technical Update of the Social Cost of Carbon for Regulatory Impact Analysis Under Executive Order

Think Progress adds:

In other words, the House just tried to write climate denial into the Defense Department’s budget. “The McKinley amendment would require the Defense Department to assume that the cost of carbon pollution is zero,” Reps. Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Bobby Rush (D-IL) said in a letter to their colleagues before the vote. “That’s science denial at its worst and it fails our moral obligation to our children and grandchildren.”

I hope the rest of the world that is laughing at us realizes that it is the GOP that revels in wallowing in ignorance.

It’s called GLOBAL warming / climate change for a reason. I don’t think they should be laughing. We’re all getting screwed.

sadly the rest of the world sees it as an american thing and not only gop. How do we take the us seriously when it exports McDoodle all around the world – where it praises racism, where health care is a luxury and women have no rights except those allowed by men?

Can you imagine what people will be saying about the GOP in 40 years, after it died off? It will be the same as we now talk about birthers and 911 truthers. People will refuse to believe anyone could have been that stupid.

I can imagine it will be similar to what I think of when I read up on castles in the middle ages that didn’t have indoor plumbing.
