What a stupid headline. The man attempted to save people from a nutso with his legally owned and carried firearm and you say that carrying the weapon got him killed? No. He was being responsible, he didn’t pull his weapon and just start shooting. He was ascertaining what was going on and that lowlife b i t c h shot him on the sly. Would you have rather have had him done it the liberal way and just stand there and become a victim? At least he tried to do something and wasn’t afraid to take some action.

Here’s a hint. Don’t just read the headline before commenting, read the entire story. It might prevent you from making an arse of yourself (but I doubt it).

I did. And here are the snarky comments at the end: “How did that work out for Joseph Robert Wilcox? Carrying a weapon doesn’t mean that you’re safe, but it does increase the odds that you might be killed.” And “I wonder if Wayne LaPierre or Ted Nugent will kick in to help cover his funeral? Don’t hold your breath.”

LaPierre works for the gun industry.. he could care less if that guy was killed or not. I got the point of the snarky comment.
Actually all 5 people involved 2 cops 2 criminals and one armed bystander where ALL killed

I also take exception to the title of this article. What likely cost this man his life was lack of training in police tactics. Cover and concealment were likely a better choice than open confrontation. I wasn’t there, so I’m just guessing. His bravery, and fortitude is to be commended and eulogized.
I think I’ll send a few bucks.

The guy had 0 tactical training, got tunnel vision and missed the obvious threat he ran by less than 5 feet away. He took a direct line towards the guy while the woman watched him. Anyone with tactical training knows they need to avoid tunnel vision and be observant of their surroundings. Many states that require training for CCW also teach this and stress the point heavily… tunnel vision, that is losing focus on surroundings and focusing only on a single perceived threat.
I have spent nearly 3 years deployed. I have been in firefights more than I can count. I have seen people get tunnel vision. Takes a lot of training both on the range and off to break it. I was lucky to have 5 years of training before first deploying, the one UK guy I witnessed get killed was fresh meat, been in under 7 months.
Always be aware of surroundings, pay attention to body language, eyes, clothing. .. what are their hands doing… little details most don’t and won’t realize. That can be trained at home, out in public, just takes practice.

This guy died a hero as far as I am concerned. As others have commented, he may have made an error in focussing solely on the one shooter. of course, most times there IS only one, but still.
I am a range shooter and hunter, I have no training in ‘tactical” firearms use up here in the Great White North, and so I will defer to what others have said: he was perhaps under-trained. Just goes to shopw the importance of firearms training. It should start, for those interested, in middle school.
But, IMO, “having a concealed weapon” didn’t get him killed…being a compassionate, well-intentioned, good guy with a gun did.
So the anti-gunowner types are going to dance a jig on HIS grave too??
