Huckabee: Gay Marriage Is Legal, But So Were Things In Hitler’s Germany
And the former Arkansas governor implied that Martin Luther King, Jr. would have agreed that laws allowing gay marriage should be broken.
…Huckabee quoted from a letter that Martin Luther King’s Jr. wrote while spending eight days in the Birmingham Jail for fighting to end segregation.
“One may well ask, ‘How can you advocate breaking some laws and obeying others?'” King had written. “The answer is found in the fact that there are two types of laws: there are just laws, and there are unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that ‘An unjust law is no law at all.'”
Huckabee continued reading from King’s letter: “We can never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was “legal” and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was ‘illegal.’ It was ‘illegal’ to aid and comfort a Jew in Hitler’s Germany. But I am sure that if I had lived in Germany during that time, I would have aided and comforted my Jewish brothers even though it was illegal.”
“I wish I had penned those words,” Huckabee exclaimed. “But they were penned by someone who understood freedom, and understood that there was a time to stand up against law when it has become unjust. Those are the words that were penned in 1954 by Martin Luther King Jr. in his letter from the Birmingham Jail.”
Speaking for the almighty, Huckabee says God will punish America for failing to stop gay marriage.

It makes me angry that right wingers today try to wrap themselves in the legacy of Dr. KIng. Dr. King advocated for labor unions, for a federally guaranteed minimum income, and called the United States the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.
When he was alive, he was accused of being a communist agent. The people who are alive today and were closest to him such as Julian Bond, Jesse Jackson, and Andrew Young are reviled by right wingers.
There is a pathological dishonesty in some groups of the American right where it is Democrats who are responsible for the mess in Iraq and conservatives simply adore a man who stood for virtually everything the right wing rails against.
The big hole in Mr. Huckabee’s logic is a reminder of the fundamental hypocrisy upon which this country was founded where the southern colonists in pursuit of their own liberty demanded the “right” to enslave other human beings. Huckabee has his analogies wrong. It is not a case of people who support gay marriage being like Nazis. More accurately it is people who oppose gay marriage, being like slave owners. Liberty for them, but not for those who are not just like them.

Well, the Nazis technically were anti-abortion for Aryan women. They were a-ok with it for women who were Jews or Romany.
This is a variation on the conservafilth policy of wanting abortion on demand when THEIR women are pregnant and don’t want to be, but everyone else who wants one is immoral sluts.
