Rep. Louie Gohmert Wants To Defund The White House
Texas Congressman Louis Gohmert believes Congress can just defund those in the executive branch he doesn’t like: Attorney General Eric Holder, for starters, and then the White House, itself.
Well, the Founders gave us the power of the purse. It’s going to take a lot of courage to stand up to the president and say, ‘We’re going to start defunding anything that you care deeply about that’s not important to the American people.’ We’re going to start defunding the Attorney General’s office. We’ve got a bill that would actually, and we’ve been pushing to get this into an appropriations package, it says anybody that’s in contempt of Congress can’t be paid their salary. We need to do that, we need to start eliminating money for any agency, including the White House, that is not following the law. And then you get their attention. That’s what the Founders anticipated.

This is beyond “Obama Derangement Syndrome.” This is out-and-out SEDITION! Louie Gohmert is actually seeking to force the executive branch to cease operations by defunding it. Not only is that is a blatant breach of the constitutional separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches, it also effectively violates the Smith Act of 1940, which makes it a crime to seek or advocate the overthrow of the government through non-democratic means, Defunding the Obama administration to prevent it from doing its job of carrying out the laws of this country it was TWICE elected to do is nothing less than an act of overthrowing the government.

I think a more appropriate act would be to defund Congress. After all, they have lived up to their promise of thwarting anything the executive branch attempted to do and have continued this childish act for nearly six years. The House, if it continues on its present trend, will go down in history as the least productive session of the House in the history of the country. This is occurring at the same time that each member is being paid a higher salary and receiving greater benefits than in any time in history.
