Nice man Gene Simmons of KISS should not be called upon to eulogize Robin Williams. His lack of empathy for the depressed shows what a great guy he is.

[su_center_ad]

His defends his position by pointing out that his mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany, so he doesn’t want to hear from anyone who says “the world is a harsh place.” (It seems like he should want to hear from those people especially!) He continues:

“For a putz 20-year-old kid to say, ‘I’m depressed. I live in Seattle.’ Fuck you, then kill yourself. I never understand, because I always call them on their bluff. I’m the guy who says ‘Jump’ when there’s a guy on top of a building who says, ‘That’s it, I can’t take it anymore. I’m going to jump.’ Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut the fuck up, have some dignity and jump! You’ve got the crowd,” Simmons said. “By the way, you walk up to the same guy on a ledge who threatens to jump and put a gun to his head, ‘I’m going to blow your fuckin’ head off.’ He’ll go, ‘Please don’t.’ It’s true. He’s not that insane.”[su_sky_ad]

Didn’t this wretch spew this crap some time ago? Is he coming back for more now that he has a new “reality” show?

    • PissedOffModerate August 15th, 2014 at 9:30 pm

Yeah, it was reported a couple weeks ago.

What is it today that makes people express such vile opinions. Do they really think saying such vile things will win them some sort of high praise.

    • mea_mark August 16th, 2014 at 8:46 am

It’s not high praise they are seeking, it is dollars that come in from merchandise sales, stimulated from all the free publicity. The bigger the expletive you are, the more attention you get, the more money you make. The way to fight this is to boycott products that have anything to do with him.

  17. Helen Dixon August 16th, 2014 at 7:18 am

No, not really — his Mother knows his heart, and would know that he was just speaking from ‘anger’ — and didn’t really stop and think about the words he was letting ‘fly’! I’ve heard him talk about such things (well, not suicide, particularly) but it was coming from the same ‘place’ within him. His Mother, who is a Hungarian Jew, and who is the dearest thing in the world to him, actually did go through having to live in the Nazi concentration camps, and the only reason she was kept alive was that she had a knack for “doing hair”… and the SS Soldiers wanted their wives to ‘look beautiful’ when showing them off… so Florence’s (his Mother’s) life was spared. Everyone in her family was killed by the Nazis, except for herself and a brother. After the war, she moved to Israel, and that’s where Gene was born. Gene and his Mother came to the USA when Gene was 8 years old and couldn’t speak a word of English. They lived a rough life for quite some time, with very little money, and had to learn to get by, as best they could while Gene was growing up, so they both knew what living without money and no education was like, but they were thankful to be here in the USA! It’s a good thing that Gene was smart and a ‘quick learner’ so he did learn the language pretty quick after he started school and picked it up from the kids at school. Anyway, I’ve heard him talk about how ‘lucky’ Americans are, and when he gets on “that roll” his usual calm demeanor leaves him, and he will expound at length anytime he hears people (especially the young people of today) complaining or saying how bad their “life is”, etc. etc.– then he ‘sees red’! So, that’s where he was ‘coming from’ with his remarks… and he wasn’t directing them, or his anger toward Robin Williams (who was a friend of his) but just the people in general that don’t appreciate how ‘fragile and temporary’ life is, and how ‘good’ they have it here, etc. etc.! Knowing how he thinks, I would say that Robin’s death hit him hard, and he couldn’t take what some of the “punks” (or “putz’s” as he said) were talking about it all. I am a long time fan (from taking my son to see “Kiss” in concert at the LA Forum, back in ’76) and have literally followed their career along with my son, off and on, ever since! Later, I went on to eventually get ‘hooked’ on their Reality Show, and I think I have seen almost every episode (and am now, watching the re-runs they’re showing) even the ones I’ve seen before (that’s how much I enjoy them) — I love the whole family, and can’t get enough of them! It’s the best Reality Show ever produced and I just wish all the families I know would watch it! They are great parents, and the kids have grown up to be just like all parents would hope for their own to be! I know I’m making this too long, but it bothers me to see how people have latched onto this “blurb of news” that Gene spewed in an angry moment, and should never have said what he did, but that is the one thing that gets him riled, when he thinks people don’t respect their country, and don’t realize how good we have it in America! That’s where he was ‘coming from’ with his anger; and really wasn’t meaning any of it towards Robin, I just know that! I’ll stop now, but I just hope you all don’t judge him too harshly because he really is a very good person! Watch for “more remarks” from him, as I’m sure he is even ashamed and mad at himself for “putting his big boot” in his mouth (as he says, whenever he says things he shouldn’t)! I’m certain that’s how he feels right now, too! Sorry for making this so long, I just wanted to make it clear that he was just ‘spouting’ and that was all… I’m sure he was as upset over Robin’s death as we all are! That’s all…. :-

    • mea_mark August 16th, 2014 at 8:53 am

I hope you are not blinded by infatuation. This man has always been a hard core materialist looking to make a buck anyway he can. Attention is his stock and trade.

      • Helen Dixon August 16th, 2014 at 11:06 am

I know all about that ‘part’ of him too… it stems from his childhood and what they went through, during those years. They were “dirt poor”… his Mother would go without food sometimes just so her child had something to eat, etc. etc. — that’s just one instance, of course, but what I have heard about their past, makes our lives seem almost like a ‘luxury’ childhood. I knew after I wrote that, it was probably a mistake… it’s just that I know from watching their Reality Show so long, how they all are — Gene, for all his “swagger” and false “bravado”, is a big–hearted *softie*…a good husband, and Father and all that ‘successful businessman’ side of him is mainly for Shannon (his wife) and this beloved Mother, and of course, the kids, who are grown now and college bound! But I should have known, if you don’t watch them on TV (on the AXS Channel) you would have no idea about him and the family — I love them and even all their pets — and it’s just nice to see how they get along and have their family jokes and all the fun together! There’s a reason why their show has lasted so long, you know!! Oh well, enough now — like I said you’d have to watch them and get to know them, etc. etc. but that’s not going to happen, I’m sure! BTW, I wanted to tell you… I am a 78 year-old Great Grandmother… will be 79 in a couple of months (and my oldest son turned 61 in June)! — So I’m way past *infatuation* of any kind, but thanks for the laugh!
That made my day!! LoL!!! 😀

        • Marjie61 August 17th, 2014 at 10:17 pm

your words fall on deaf ears Helen. I think you are probably a very upbeat, forgiving enabler.

    • Marjie61 August 16th, 2014 at 9:05 am

Helen…shall I tell you about my horrible childhood? The extreme abuse I suffered at the hands of a violent mother for 18 years? Nah, I won’t bore you with the gory details. I’ll just say that I made it a point to be anti violence, anti- unkindness, anti-hate, anti-my mother. It’s a choice. Every one of our behaviors is a choice. Please stop enabling his hate, stop excusing him

      • Helen Dixon August 16th, 2014 at 12:24 pm

I’m sorry to hear that you had such a bad childhood, dear! (I really am)! But I’m glad to hear that you seem to have overcome it… and that shows you will make it in your life, that you are strong enough, despite all that! And, good for you!!
Now, as I tried to tell mea_mark (below here)…Gene Simmons is not a hateful person! So, I am not ‘enabling’ any hate there, the ‘hate’ that you think came from him (I wouldn’t call it ‘hate’) it’s more like ‘no patience’ for the young people that ‘get to him’ when he sees and hears (especially) the young men today, ‘complain about their life’ and “think they have troubles” etc. etc. He wasn’t meaning that toward Robin Williams at all — but toward all the younger people that think they have it so rough and decide to do that, instead of coping with their life as it is! He was directing his remarks to the young guys of today that think they have to commit suicide at the age of 22 or so, and ‘take themselves out’ by O.D.’ing, etc. etc. because they think their life is so ‘tough’! I’ve heard him talk about that on their show (a lot to his son) so I know how he thinks, along those lines.
Somehow, on the Internet, it has come out wrong… the reporters ‘build on that’ to get people to read what they’ve said, and they do ‘misconstrue’ things a lot!
His Mother lived under the Nazi Concentration camps for 4 or 5 years as a young girl, and her family was all killed except herself and her brother, so that’s what I was trying to get across. His thinking is that these young guys don’t get tough enough, themselves, to weather through the ‘tough times’ until they grow older, and wiser.
If you haven’t ever watched their TV Show and gotten to know him and the family, then I can see where you would think like you do.
I just love them all and have watched them for 8 years now (watched the kids grow up, etc. etc.) and they “feel” like family to me. I’ve never watched any other Reality Show but maybe once or twice, and none of them are as good, or as honest as theirs is. Enough now… I’ll just say, maybe watch the show sometime, it’s called “Family Jewels” on AXS TV channel on cable, then you would see where I’m coming from with this ‘upholding’ him and trying to explain where ‘he was coming from’ too! Have a good weekend!!

Serious depression is a mental illness and has nothing to do with feeling sorry for oneself.

      • Ormond Otvos August 17th, 2014 at 8:11 pm

It isn’t hate, it’s a reaction to the narcissistic whining of our first world complainers.

    • Ramona Grigg August 16th, 2014 at 9:30 am

Being depressed is not the same as suffering from depression. His ignorance on the subject is appalling. http://www.ramonasvoices.com/2014/08/the-dark-sadness-claims-another-victim.html
