Jerry Lewis has made some comments about female comedians he’s tried to walk back, but not very successfully. As a result, he’ll be picketed when the New York Friar’s Club honors him next month.

Lewis, 88, once said, “I don’t like female comedians . . . a woman doing comedy doesn’t offend me but sets me back a bit. I, as a viewer, have trouble with it. I think of her as a producing machine that brings babies in the world.”

“The Nutty Professor” star and longtime “abbot” at the club has walked back those comments in recent years, saying he thinks women are funny — he just doesn’t like seeing them do stand-up, where one has to “project aggression.”

But some of the more than 150 female Friars are upset and plan to boycott. One told me, “We are up in arms. He says women aren’t funny. Why should we honor him?”[su_sky_ad]

Alan, you post all these articles but never present your opinion. How do YOU feel about this? This is why your posts have so little replies.

No, see that’s R.J. Carlter, not Alan.

I’ve never thought that Jerry Lewis was funny–but not because he’s male. He’s just simply not funny. He’s the male version of Joan Rivers.

He wasn’t funny. He just did crazy and clumsy things.

He was a comedic actor, not so much a comedian. Long past time he retired and faded into obscurity.

I heard he is mean and nasty on a personal level.

Que voulez-vous dire ? Il est un génie. Vous avez vu le film, “le jour Le clown a pleuré?”

Ha ha on you, you big libtard! Your comment was flagged!

I have forgotten all about him. Didn’t realize that he was still alive, I would continue to ignore him. But thank him for all the years hosting the MD Marathon.

Scanning through the people I follow on twitter I find 80% of the comics I follow are women, my favorite is Sarah Palin.

She’s one of the unintentional comics.

My cousin used to be a Flight Attendant based in Los Angeles. A lot of movie and TV stars were on her flights over the years. She said the most unpleasant, by far, was Jerry Lewis. A very selfish, obnoxious, unpleasant man. Read this article by a flight attendant about flying with the late Robin Williams. Unlike Lewis, he was a very caring, kind, polite person. http://www.purpleclover.com/life-reimagined/2938-robin-williams-first-class/

I never enjoyed his type of comedy.

He is revered in France. That should be pretty much all we need to know about his “genius”!

I think that Jerry is just very jealous of the fact that there are funnier folks than he.
He’s an embittered old fart who cannot understand that his best days have come-and-gone. All that he has left is the bitterness of “what might have been.”
So, he seeks out a scapegoat for his “non-relevance.”
And–he singles out his sisters-in-trade as his target.

Well, the sad truth is that Jerry’s comments…even though he tried to walk them back…basicly show what sort of man he truly is.
A vindictive, mean, unloveable, and un-funny has-been who does not seem to really care how much his words do hurt–until somebody calls him out.
He may have his Labor Day telethon to fight M.S.–but is that all he has now, or will have whe he enters the Void?

Jerry…give it up, ‘mano! You can do far better to make your Golden Years go that much better than to be acting as you are now!

Now people are picketing Jerry? Free speech is dying in this nation and I am tired of all those who get “offended” at the slightest comment by somebody. Oh, you are offended? Get a life!

So he can have free speech but they can’t??? Yes it seems it is dying, thanks to attitudes like yours. 🙁
