Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell says he’s no longer living with his wife but, rather, is living with Wayne Ball, a priest who pleaded guilty in 2002 for having gay sex in a parking lot.

McDonnell has testified that his marriage was a “sham” and therefore he could not have colluded with his wife in taking all those bribes. Shortly after he took office, McDonnell stripped LGBT people from a statewide anti-discrimination executive order, declaring that there is no evidence of such discrimination.

McDonnell is vehemently anti-gay.

McDonnell railed against sex outside of marriage in his now-infamous master’s thesis, making his friendship with Ball and his decision to move into the rectory at St. Patrick’s during the trial all the more interesting. In the paper, written for Regents University in 1989, McDonnell deplored “the perverted notion of liberty that each individual should be able to live out his sexual life in any way he chooses without interference from the state,” going on to blast gays and unwed mothers.

As a Virginia state delegate, McDonnell had also been part of a Republican-led state crime commission that recommended criminalizing “sodomy that occurs in a public place” in 2005.[su_sky_ad]

What a sham. McDonnell isn’t a Catholic he’s a Fundamentalist/Evangelical and they think Catholics aren’t real christians. I’d give my eye teeth to listen in the McConnell’s private phone calls between him and his wive. I’m sure they have special phones just for those talks. Wonder how hard it is the monitor those phones.

Catholics and mormons are “real” christians when it is expedient. After all, to most christians, a “cult” is just the church down the street from theirs.

      • Larry Schmitt August 26th, 2014 at 2:51 pm

And to some people, all religions are cults.

        • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 2:52 pm

Don’t forget that they are some of the most effective tax avoidance schemes!

          • Larry Schmitt August 26th, 2014 at 2:54 pm

If donations to the churches weren’t deductible, people would give a lot less to them than they do. Unfortunately, that’s also true of real charities.

          • M D Reese August 26th, 2014 at 3:22 pm

Churches can file a tax return just like all the rest of us, and their actual “good works” can be taken into account. I think that the whole non-profit tax exemption system needs an overhaul. it’s being grossly abused by religious and political (sometimes one and the same) groups.

          • Larry Schmitt August 26th, 2014 at 3:28 pm

I agree. If the church actually does charitable work, such as a pantry or meals on wheels that’s available to all, I have no problem with deductible donations. But if it goes to operation of the parish, like the Sunday collections, they should not be deductible. Maybe send some of the priests and ministers out to get real jobs if their parishioners won’t support them without the deduction.

          • Dwendt44 August 26th, 2014 at 6:26 pm

If those pantries are for church members only, then no deduction.

          • Larry Schmitt August 26th, 2014 at 6:30 pm

            Right.

          • M D Reese August 26th, 2014 at 9:21 pm

Exactly. And the key phrase is “available to all”. Salvation Army is known for discriminating both in hiring and in services offered.

          • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 3:56 pm

That’s not necessarily so. The giving shifts to local, more effective organizations. Less to the mega church leaches and political organizations posing as churches is a good thing.

          • M D Reese August 26th, 2014 at 3:19 pm

Yup–I can’t decide whether to incorporate or become a church. I’m tired of subsidizing tax cheats.

          • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 3:57 pm

            Churches and multinational corporations!

          • Dwendt44 August 26th, 2014 at 6:24 pm

If you are incorporated, you have to report income and other information to the government. If you are a church you don’t report anything.

          • M D Reese August 26th, 2014 at 9:16 pm

Hey thanks! That settles it–I’m a church!

        • M D Reese August 26th, 2014 at 3:18 pm

That’s my take on them–and they are all based on the supernatural. It boggles my mind that people who are otherwise seeming sane and rational actually BELIEVE in all that.

    • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 2:47 pm

Not very. Just ask the NSA!

  2. Abby Normal August 26th, 2014 at 2:35 pm

Strange bedfellows. Oops. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.

    • Anomaly 100 August 26th, 2014 at 2:41 pm

You absolutely should have said it.

    • Dave August 26th, 2014 at 2:50 pm

You should have….you did….and I applaud you for doing so.

It’s astounding the hoops the clown is willing to jump through to weasel out of his crimes.

    • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 2:48 pm

I was just going to post that same comment! Either he’s truly been in a very big closet or going to new lengths to support his defense argument!

      • Larry Schmitt August 26th, 2014 at 2:58 pm

The thing I’ve noticed is, he’s not denying this stuff happened, but it’s all someone else’s fault: his wife, Jonnie Williams, anyone’s but his.

        • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 3:58 pm

It’s always someone else’s fault when it comes time to be held accountable!

            murder 4 people neary 2 others… ring a bell?

    • granpa.usthai August 26th, 2014 at 3:59 pm

If we use proper words without them being crimes, shouldn’t we go by the American alphabet?

  4. M D Reese August 26th, 2014 at 2:49 pm

I’ve got the lyrics of the old Beau Brummels song “Laugh laugh” stuck in my head. “Laugh laugh,I thought I’d cry, it seemed so funny to me–laugh laugh, you met a guy, who taught you what it means to be…”

    • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 2:51 pm

Now, I have the same earworm, well, thanks for that!

      • M D Reese August 26th, 2014 at 2:53 pm

You bet! Have you heard Weird Al’s “Word Crimes” yet? It’s excellent, and will help to get the Beau Brummels out of there:

being diverse is the first step in accepting diversity.
Before Sara accepted diversity with open limbs she said she was for monogamy.

    • Larry Schmitt August 26th, 2014 at 4:52 pm

She meant she was for mammography.

Bedfellows make strange politics. Is anyone surprised?

  7. William August 26th, 2014 at 5:33 pm

Has anyone considered he might just be trying to acclimate himself to prison life?

  8. mmaynard119 August 26th, 2014 at 6:30 pm

I wonder if the priest gave him a Rolex watch?

    • tiredoftea August 26th, 2014 at 8:19 pm

Not likely, but something a tad more intimate, perhaps?

    • Padma Gyaltsen August 27th, 2014 at 2:39 pm

He gave him a roll, but not a Rolex.

I can just imagine Maureen McDowell reflecting on why she married this man. He could have pleaded guilty to a lesser charge that would have prevented her from being prosecuted, but he refused. Now he’s doing everything he can to throw her under the bus so that he can avoid being convicted for bribery and corruption. I can’t begin to imagine what their kids are going through or how they’re now looking at the man they thought loved their mom and wondering who he is. Some of them might be wondering now whether they ever really knew him. It has to be very painful for Maureen McDowell to have to sit in the courtroom and watch her husband sell her down the river to save his own skin and to know that one of the major reasons he’s doing it is because of his desire to further his political career. If I had found myself in Bob McDonnell’s position of being a politician facing charges for bribery and corruption, I would have accepted the plea deal, worked to keep my family intact, and found another job.

Once again a man who campaigned on family values, for the part of family values proves how morally bankrupt they truly are

I read words that seem to lack specific definitions. What do they mean – SPECIFICALLY by “GAY SEX” and “SODOMY”? SPECIFICALLY. And after you have ASSaulted your mind with “GAY SPEAK”, –consider a group of men who shun the “GAY” label — even though they love other men/too. Why? Because society has messed up notions about what being same-gender-attracted is all about. G00GLE “g0ys” -spelled w. a zer0 to begin the 1st day of your paradigm shift!
