Watch: Racist Cardinals Fans Get Ugly In Clash With Ferguson Protesters
In a video captured by Argus Streaming News, St. Louis Cardinals fans are seen clashing with Ferguson protesters on Monday night outside Busch Stadium. The baseball fans began chanting the name of the white police officer who fatally shot the unarmed black teenager down. Then things turned from bad to worse.
[su_center_ad]The baseball fans began shouting “Let’s Go Darren” and “Darren Wilson.”
Deadspin has at timeline of the dialogue, which states in part:
At about the 22-second mark, an old white Cardinals fan begins telling the protesters—all of whom appear to be black—that they need to get jobs. He looks right in the camera, proudly, and says, “That’s right! If they’d be working, we wouldn’t have this problem!”
At 8:10 one of the Cardinals fans calls one of the protesters a “crack head” and tells him he needs to go see a dentist.
At about 10:25 a small blonde lady starts yelling at the protesters: “We’re the ones who gave all y’all the freedoms that you have!”
At about 12:14 an older female Cardinals fan begins telling the man holding the camera, who claims he is a former Marine, that she doesn’t believe he is a veteran. The conversation does not go well for her.
At 14:54, the Cardinals fans start in on a very loud “USA! USA! USA!” chant.
At 16:07, another Cardinals fan begins yelling at the protesters, telling them that they need to get jobs.
At 16:43, a female Cardinals fan begins chanting “Africa! Africa! Africa!” at the protesters.

These idiots must have been raised by NeoNazis and Klansmen to be so full of anger, hatred and ignorance.
SmartPatriot October 7th, 2014 at 3:30 pm
That’s the problem… you think that, but it just goes to show you how this is no longer fringe thinking, so many people feel so aggrieved (for whatever reason), and filled with so much resentment that they just lash out. When you have Fox and other conservative media convincing people like this that somehow “you are the TRUE victims of racism” . Here you have a tangible example of that at work.
tracey marie October 7th, 2014 at 2:40 pm
So many racists, so much hate and fear. Why do they feel the need to threaten and insult the protesters who are literally fighting for justice and possibly their own lives.
rg9rts October 7th, 2014 at 2:53 pm
Its called projection…they project their hate on others what they hate about themselves
R.J. Carter October 7th, 2014 at 3:50 pm
So that’s why they were shouting “Who do we want? Darren Wilson!”
rg9rts October 7th, 2014 at 4:50 pm

R.J. Carter October 7th, 2014 at 5:12 pm
Ah, so this is one of those “My meaning only applies to the side I oppose” sentences. Carry on.
waggs03 October 7th, 2014 at 2:43 pm
As a Cardinal fan, this is disturbing, but having been born and raised in this part of the country, I know this level of racism exist. I saw it as a child and it remains in my adulthood for reasons that I can’t understand. Please don’t lump all Cardinal fans as being like this bunch of idiots. Thanks.
Herb Sarge Phelps October 7th, 2014 at 3:19 pm
Racism does not honor geographical lines and many of us who hate such stupidity have neighbors or friends that take part in this hatred. Sad how people think they are not hateful and yet show it in such a manner.
Budda October 7th, 2014 at 3:09 pm
Racism is alive and well in St. Louis.
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 3:37 pm
RACISM is the inherent belief that 1 race is genetically superior to another. The term has been hijacked by lazy people (of all races) to further their own agenda. Someone show me a racist on either side in this video.
The cameraman notes that, since one of the Cardinal fans suggests that (paraphrase) ‘if they had jobs this wouldn’t be happening’, racism is still alive and well. This speaks directly to my point. Just throw a misused word out there and watch the shock and awe proliferate.
Anomaly 100 October 7th, 2014 at 3:42 pm
Ummm…yelling “Africa! Africa! Africa!” among other things to a group of black men and woman is in fact racist.
R.J. Carter October 7th, 2014 at 3:49 pm
That is. But the initial comment wasn’t. (It may have been rooted in it, but the statement itself was about working, not race.)
Anomaly 100 October 7th, 2014 at 4:21 pm
Heh. I invite you to my neighborhood to shout that from the streets. Let’s see how well it goes over:-)
Mike Butkus Jr. October 7th, 2014 at 6:22 pm
Thank you! My head was about to explode. The discussion on how to be offencive without appearing racist. riviting
Anomaly 100 October 7th, 2014 at 6:55 pm
It’s weird that some people don’t comprehend the racist rhetoric coming from the video.
Mike Butkus Jr. October 7th, 2014 at 7:22 pm
Nothing uglier…. We are living in strange times
Carla Akins October 7th, 2014 at 6:43 pm
Uh no. But for good measure make sure they say something disparaging about Vietnam war vets too.
Anomaly 100 October 7th, 2014 at 7:17 pm
Oh yeah, James and Clifford will be so down with that.
ChrisVosburg October 7th, 2014 at 4:28 pm
Given that the employment status of the black protesters cannot have been known to the whites objecting to the protest, we may safely assume that the assumption is being made that because they are black they are unemployed, a racist assumption.
arc99 October 7th, 2014 at 4:37 pm
It was rooted in an assumption about the protesters’ employment status. Cliven Bundy supporters went online begging for money and that was a-ok.
But black folks take the time to protest, and obviously it is because the lazy bums do not work.
Hmmm, what could the difference between Bundy supporters and Ferguson protesters possibly be? It really does amaze me how one can find numerous examples of blacks and whites being treated differently under similar circumstances, yet so many people would deny that race has anything at all to do with the difference.
Reminds me of a guy I know. People keep demanding his birth certificate as a condition of keeping his job. But none of the white guys who held the same job in the past, ever had to produce one. Go figure….
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 3:50 pm
Does yelling “Africa” 3 times to a group of black men and women show that you have the belief that 1 race is genetically superior than another?
Do explain…
ChrisVosburg October 7th, 2014 at 4:24 pm
Goes to the expression of white supremacy and the perception of white supremacists that the US is for whites only, and blacks need to go back to Africa, where they belong, because they are not good enough to be here.
So yes, that’s racist in its original sense.
Khary A October 7th, 2014 at 4:27 pm
Consider it as a similar action as the Italian delegation in the league of nations to Haile Selassie. It’s a nasty way to connote the perception of inferior gene stock by Africa and it’s descendants. Dredging up past genetic connections to a people who are in actuality American. It would be like calling a white American a Briton or a Franc. Disrespectful in a back handed way.
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 4:32 pm
Wow you and Chris have taken the long way around the block to arrive at the same location. The chant still isn’t racist in and of itself. So the same people who demand to be referred to as African-American should be offended by perceived racists chanting Africa?
So is it ok to link black people to Africa or not? Or only if they give you permission? Or only if the link is positive? I’m so confused!
Khary A October 7th, 2014 at 4:41 pm
In my perception, I don’t believe it is ok to link the ” African-American” to Africa. I and many of my kind dont particularly like the term “African-American”. We know little to nothing about the continent, our connection was destroyed in the diaspora. Even our names were erased so yes it is a racist statement. It’s a sick little way to stab at the heart of a black American by chanting that as such. It ‘s a way for certain factions of white America to “remind” us that this is NOT your country and it never will be. Would you call a Japanese person Chinese because they at one point were from the same landmass? I would imagine not. The subject of our genetic origin is of mixed comfort at best. I personally see no need for the connection but others of my gene-kin may. In any case it is not for others to call out ones origins as such..its not just hurtful it’s just plain rude.
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 4:53 pm
As stated earlier I don’t condone what either side was doing (one side was telling another to suck their….btw) I’m merely pointing out how the terms racist and racism are misused. I would submit to you and others the chants were racially motivated but fall just short of the chanters being racist. Having said that it would not surprise me if they did turn out to be racist. The video in it’s entirety doesn’t support that though.
And I do appreciate your well thought out replies Khary. We need these type of discussions. We should all embrace discourse as long as it is constructed with civility.

RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 7:39 pm
Depends on if you insist on calling me racist and/or stupid. Which would you rather? (and btw to make your choice easier..my arrogant stupidity is in the shop for somewhat minor repairs)
arc99 October 7th, 2014 at 6:12 pm
When the implication is that they are not “real” Americans, then yes African Americans most certainly should be defended.
Can’t understand why such a simple concept would be confusing.
Shouldn’t a person who is proud of their Jewish heritage and culture be offended if they hear someone using a phrase like
“jew them down on the price”?
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 7:25 pm
And that implication is left up to each observer to figure out. You cannot tell me what I should glean from what another says. It’s up to me to decide. Much in the same way art is interpreted. It is a very personal decision that can’t be delivered to or duplicated by another.
Carla Akins October 7th, 2014 at 6:41 pm
So the Cardinals fans were not being disparaging, just yelling words that the protestors (and all reasonable people reading this thread) should not be offended by? Is that the point you’re trying to make? If so, that’s ridiculous – clearly the words were inflammatory and predicated on the protestors race. Racism.
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 7:22 pm
I’m glad you asked that Carla…Excellent question..well except that if you did your due diligence as the reader of my post, you would understand that in no way was I supporting either side.I was merely pointing out that racism by definition was not on display in the video. Let me..sigh…give you the definition AGAIN…Racism is the inherent belief that one race is genetically superior to another. (Do you see anyone chanting..My race is genetically superior to yours?) Please read thoroughly before asking one to explain themselves yet again. The answers to your questions are littered throughout the comments here.
Carla Akins October 7th, 2014 at 7:27 pm
Never mind. You’re not listening. The first part of the definition is : the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
This is what they did – it was racist. If you fail to recognize this you need to get out more.
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 7:34 pm
I see we are talking past each other here. Do you condone the protester chanting “Suck my ****”? That wasn’t disparaging to you? Or is it more to that fact that it doesn’t fit the narrative you are pushing?
Carla Akins October 7th, 2014 at 9:22 pm
It doesn’t fit the narrative but since I’m an old white woman it has absolutely nothing to do with stereotypes or previous racial history. of old white women. The implication of a black person being too lazy to work or chanting “Africa” as in “go back to” is absolutely racist in its implication and its intent.
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 10:57 pm
Do you condone the protester telling the Cardinal fan to give him “oral treats”?
tracey marie October 7th, 2014 at 6:01 pm
yelling africa, saying to get a job, disparaging one for his teeth, saying “we gave y’all your freedoms, threatening them…kinda adds up to racism, wouldn’t you have to agree
Maxx44 October 7th, 2014 at 4:43 pm
Racism – hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
There’s more than one definition of racism & these “fans” are practicing it regardless of your lame attempt to excuse their actions.
RandomPrecision October 7th, 2014 at 4:46 pm
I wouldn’t excuse the ignorance on either side of that barrier and I would challenge you to point out where I “excused” their actions. I’m merely pointing out the misuse of the term racism and racist.
R.J. Carter October 7th, 2014 at 3:46 pm
It was known the protestors planned on being there. After disrupting the STL Symphony and causing an audience walk-out, Cards fans came pre-angered.
Anomaly 100 October 7th, 2014 at 4:20 pm
No doubt, but the racist rhetoric only confirmed what we’ve known since the shooting. There’s a lot of racism in that neck of the woods.

jasperjava October 7th, 2014 at 7:47 pm
Baseball hooligans care about the SYMPHONY?
Since when?
In my experience, symphony audiences tend to be liberal (educated, cultured people). Maybe there’s a few wealthy boorish conservative nouveau riche who don’t actually appreciate classical music but only want to show off their furs and jewelry. I haven’t heard of a walkout.
R.J. Carter October 8th, 2014 at 9:34 am
Well, they walked out. The Symphony is issuing refunds. (fwiw, the protestors were also paying customers.)

“How do we want him?” “Dead!”

No one cares about the Cardinals..(national leage)
It’s The Kansas City Royals we should be watching~!

Then it’s on to the World series~!
St Louis fan are an embarrassment to all of us.

You and I could be slightly biased but then some Royals fans assisted a mom with a young son obtain tickets outside the stadium so she could create a lasting memory, Royals players joined the public in celebration after the game and Hosmer picked up a 20k tab. I don’t recall any of those stories about the Cardinals game.

Yes I freely admit…
I am biased towards the Kansas City Royals~!
My home town team~!
I read about that story in the paper..

We have a really good team and they are really decent people…
3 of our starting line up are born in Venezuela and no one makes a big deal of it here..
Kansas City proud~!

I agree, they’re a good group of young men. And I’m not referring to their job skills but they rock that too.

I have to admit st.louis was a tea party time bomb ready to go off years ago and its getting worse each day. If the city would enforce justice as written this kind of bs wouldn’t happen Instead I think they enjoy watching the possible riots break out so they can sport their armored fleets once again…. Very sad
