Indiana Doctor Fatally Shoots Wife, Self, On Wedding Night
George Samson and Kelly Ecker got into a violent fight at their wedding reception, resulting in Samson killing Ecker and then himself.

After the last guest left, a heated argument broke out between the newlyweds, and the bride made a frantic call to 911 saying her husband threatened to kill her, officials said.
“The investigation has revealed that there was a verbal argument between the couple toward the end of the reception, which carried over to the after-party at the couple’s home,” said Vigo County Chief Deputy Sheriff Clark Cottom.
Police found Ecker’s body with several fatal shots and Samson dead in the basement after taking his own life.
Ecker made three 911 calls, but the first two calls cut out suddenly, Cottom added. Dispatchers heard what they thought to be gunshots being fired in the background while she was on the line.Authorities found a lifeless Ecker, who had been shot multiple times in her torso and head with a 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol. Her husband, an anesthesiologist at Union Hospital, was found dead in the basement after he shot himself once in the head with a 45-caliber handgun.[su_csky_ad]

Weddings are stressful affairs, what with the months of preparation, expense, alcohol, dealing with possible conflicts with family, friends, co-workers, etc.
Horrible situation, made tragically worse with the availability of guns.

Usually it’s alcohol and a perceived pass being made. My dad once decked a guy in a bar who was trying to help my mom up from the floor after she fell off her stool…My folks continued the slugfest when they got home.

It really leaves a mark. When I was a kid (50s and 60s) there was nowhere to go. Women and children were pretty much property. I finally called the cops during an incredibly bad bout–when they finally came, they just let my drunken dad drive himself to a motel while they followed him. I was not quite 16–and knowing that it would never get better, I found another place to live so that I could finish high school and not get killed.

my dad was in the air force–so, to call the police–which eventually had to start happening–would endanger his status…so…there was that…
i grew up in the 60’s and 70’s–it hadn’t gotten much better…
my mother finally divorced him–but not until over 5 years after he had drove drunk from a new year’s party, and put her in a wheelchair…i have no relationship with my father–not since 1985…don’t know if he’s alive or dead, truth…

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom–it’s a wonder my dad didn’t put them in the ditch or worse. He drove drunk almost every day. He was a bartender and he’d drink on the job and then drive home. My dad died when I was 18–I didn’t even want to go to the funeral.

she lived a tragedy–put in a wheelchair at 32 by an alcoholic husband…she passed away in 1985, at 48…i’m 5 years older than that, now…
poor thing—of course, i was a terribly rebellious, promiscuous teen-ager, and didn’t understand her pain-at all…lots of regret…
i understand everything, now…too late

I can empathize–I’m dealing with a lot of that stuff now, (I’m 63) and I understand about regrets. I’ve been able to look at a lot of them and think them though and then put them away. It’s a process.
