Report: Joan Rivers Died Because Of Brain Damage
Joan Rivers died of “anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease.”
In layman’s terms, according to WABC, Rivers had been sedated with propofol before an endoscopy to examine her vocal cords, as well as treat possible acid reflux. She then suffered from low blood oxygen after she stopped breathing, possibly due to cardiac arrest, and eventually died due to brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation.
