Quarantined Nurse Slams Christie: ‘My Basic Human Rights Have Been Violated’
[su_right_ad]Kaci Hickox criticized the “knee-jerk reaction by politicians” and singled out New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Hickox, an epidemiologist who was working to help treat Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, has tested negative twice for Ebola and does not have symptoms, she said.
“This is an extreme that is really unacceptable, and I feel like my basic human rights have been violated,” Hickox told CNN’s Candy Crowley on “State of the Union.”
She described herself as “physically strong” but “emotionally exhausted.”
“I’m sorry, but that’s just a completely unacceptable statement in my opinion. For him — a politician who’s trusted and respected — to make a statement that’s categorically not true is just unacceptable and appalling,” Hickox told Elizabeth Cohen, CNN’s senior medical correspondent, in a separate interview.

Gov. Christie Creme has taken the radical position to not trust TWO negative tests result because the tests should have come back positive but were spoiled by long delays due to specious bridge closures.

Can we quarantine political leaders who not only do not grasp science, but they willfully ignore those who do understand it. One person dies from Ebola in this country, and we then need to lock people away because they have been around those with the virus. 30K+ people die every year from guns, yet we don’t quarantine firearms fanatics. Oh by the way, flu season is upon us, will we quarantine those who were exposed to the first person who dies from it?

These quarantines are put in place by politicians, to pander to a base of paranoid and frighten ninnies who cannot even read the facts about ebola when placed before them.
All scientists and medical experts are opposed to such actions, and declare them to be not only useless, but counter productive.
We can always count on the fright wing to attempt to scare people and blame Obama, with no regard for consequences or the real safety of citizens here.

A doctor did come home to NY, felt ill yet still rode the subway, got a taxi, bowled and he HAS Ebola.

This is true and others who have had contact with the disease thought nothing of jumping on planes and cruise ships before they knew if they were infected or not, so why should we think she would be any different?

My daughter is an epidemiologist and she complained that almost every job she has ever had had something to do with poop so we call her the poo poo princess, I bought her the e-coli toy…hilarious!

So what is expected of high-risk individuals like Kaci Hickox?
I think Doctors Without Borders stipulates a period of “confinement” under close medical observation, frequent testing and the ability to isolate and start treatment at the very first sign of infection. Would this not be in the best interests of the public and the person?
Not sure exactly what “confinement” means or if it has any specific legal application? I do know “quarantine” has legal and medical elements and states do have the authority to impose it. Of course it has to be justified and equally applied. With Ebola it seems we need some middle-ground between extremes of medical incarceration and allowing high-risk individuals to go unchecked at all!
