[su_right_ad]An irate passenger on an AirAsia flight threw the boiling cup of noodles at a flight attendant who said she could not be seated next to her boyfriend.

According to reports, the altercation happened amidst a charter flight from Bangkok, Thailand to Nanjing, China. A couple reportedly tried to sit together, but when a flight attendant told them that they wouldn’t be able to be next to each other during the flight, both lost it.

Even after the seats were rearranged so that the couple could sit next to each other, the man and woman were still angry and refused to calm down. Another argument followed when the man asked the attendant to get hot water for his girlfriend’s noodles and the flight attendant told him they had to wait until they got to cruising altitude.

As fellow passengers began to take out their smart phones, the woman grabbed her cup of boiling hot noodles and threw it right at the front of the flight attendant as she covered her face.

got them a free flight back to Bangkok too. The couple were Chinese so they’ll be the ones soaking in ‘hot water’ when they return to China. – as will the travel agency in China that failed to give them proper instructions for Chinese citizens abroad.

So the Chinese are becoming as bratty and feel entitled like us Americans.

Those who made the Long March with Mao are spinning in their graves.

Quite. Just shows how insidious classism is. In only a few decades it took the home of the Red Guard and its Cultural Revolution and turned it into a world trade leader with a monied, spoiled elite who feel entitled to deference from “their inferiors”. Pretty amazing.

As someone who grew up in a communist society (though not China), I find some Westerners’ belief that these were classless societies where people weren’t “entitled” hilarious. Here is the thing. When virtually everything from travel to toilet paper is considered a bourgeois luxury, having important social connections and access to such luxuries is particularly important. These societies are more socially stratified, not less. Every little thing, from a pair of jeans to a ballpoint pen, becomes a mark of status. Moreover, in a totalitarian state, actually having status means you don’t just order people about and deny them a tip when they fail to please, you get to utterly crush them and their families. You think people in such societies are modest and idealistic? Please. Lay off the Maoist propaganda crap.

Also, the idea that Americans are somehow particularly entitled or nasty to service professions is pretty amusing too. This society does need to work on certain things, but compared to most other groups, Americans are actually pretty good.

What the f*ck is wrong with people? Is this any way for a reasonable human being to act? I just don’t understand.
