Oath Keeper Sheriff Urges New Yorkers To Break The Law
[su_right_ad]Thomas Lorey, and upstate New York sheriff, is urging citizens to disobey the state’s handgun licensing law.
…Lorey told a gathering of Oath Keepers that he volunteered Fulton County to take part in a pilot program for a new state system for updating handgun licenses.
“They’re going to send out 500 invitations in my county, and that’s all they are is invitations,” Lorey told the group. “The invitation is going to ask if you’d like to renew early and go online and get on their Facebook page or whatever it is and renew your permit. I’m asking everybody to gets those invitations to throw them in the garbage, because that’s where they belong.”…
“They go in the garbage because, for 100 years or more, since the inception of pistol permits, nobody’s ever been required to renew them,” the sheriff said. “It’s a ridiculous way that’s going to cost you money at some point in your life, even when though they say it isn’t.”
The NY SAFE Act, passed in 2013, requires all handgun permit holders to be recertified by 2018 and then update their permits every five years with their local county clerk or sheriff.
“I want everybody to understand if you get a letter like that, don’t do it,” Lorey said. “Let’s have everybody’s permit expire on the same day and let them see what they’re going to do with it.”

Often, the fastest way to challenge a law’s constitutionality, is to be prosecuted for violating it. If that’s the route someone wants to go, I would applaud their civic-mindedness and caution them that, should their challenge fail, they need to be willing to face the consequences of violating said law.

Can I have a list of what laws he will enforce.

Exactly.
If he spots someone sitting on their front porch smoking a joint, will he acknowledge that person has the same rights to disobey the law as he does?
Mainah January 21st, 2015 at 5:47 pm
Well, it was only made illegal by the Harris tax stamp act … so, sure why not?

Sheriffs that pick and choose what laws they follow? Not to mention the huge ego this guy has. War this, War that … but Obama is lawless? WTF?
Wayout January 22nd, 2015 at 8:17 am
Yes, Obama is as lawless as this sheriff.

Yes, Obama is as lawless as this sheriff.
_______
They say that about every president.
Come up with some original material.

Sure, just claim that your religious rights are being violated. Whether you worship god, guns, grits, or gravy (guess which ones Huckabee appears to worship) expecting you to follow the law violates your ummm… rights.

Because laws never change
whatthe46 January 21st, 2015 at 7:47 pm
what’s the big damn deal? renew it. i have to renew my drivers license ever 5 yrs. i have to renew my car registration every year. it would make sense to register your gun every year to ensure you’re still the rightful owner and you are certified to carry. (should require a mental exam if you ask me)
Wayout January 22nd, 2015 at 8:16 am
These are not permits to carry. NYS laws are so onerous that you need a permit (i.e. the states permission) just in order to exercise this particular constitutional right. You would be apoplectic if you needed a permit to own a computer, wouldn’t you?
fahvel January 21st, 2015 at 7:47 pm
if they do it, throw the mofo’s in prison.
Republicans_are_Evil January 21st, 2015 at 8:35 pm
I fully support right wingers in their desire to disobey the law. Anything to get them locked up where they belong.
Candide Thirtythree January 22nd, 2015 at 4:58 pm
Exactly what oath are they supposed to be keeping? Is there some asshole oath that I have not heard about?
